Teachers of Color Networking Event in CamasTOC

Educators of color and from diverse backgrounds gathered in Camas, WA, on June 2nd to connect and network at a Teacher of Color Convening sponsored by the WA Partners (CSTP, WEA and OSPI) and hosted by Camas School District. This convening offered educators time to discuss important issues specific to them and their students, as well as share opportunities to engage with the Washington State Network Partners.

This gathering was the second convening sponsored by the Partners this spring, the idea which was generated by a group of teachers of color the Partners met with in the fall. At that meeting teachers were asked to identify systems and patterns that are in place that support and or act as barriers for teachers of color in Washington State and create possible change ideas.

One of the change ideas presented by that group was for the Network Partners to provide opportunities for educators of color to meet, discuss and network more regularly. Topics discussed included professional learning opportunities and resources, equity issues being faced by educators, ways to build and celebrate diversity and various ideas for support/networking opportunities currently available. Educators present at the Camas meeting left feeling "encouraged and listened to and "hopeful that more networking opportunities like this will be provided in the years to come".
National Board Administrators MeetingNBAdmin

The Washington State NT3 Network Partners (OSPI, WEA and CSTP) convened a group of Nationally Board Certified administrators to help the partners think about engaging administrators across our state, at all levels, to understand and utilize the National Board Body of Knowledge. The group participated in a fish diagram and consultancy protocols that identified next steps for the Partners to consider connected to the Body of Knowledge for professional development and spreading awareness of the resources that are available for supporting accomplished teaching.

Together is Better by Simon Sinek
This book is a great combination of a lot of things perfect for a summer read - great illustrations that he uses creatively as a metaphor, powerful words about leadership and even a scratch and sniff page (you read that correctly!). While it can be read (and re-read) in 15 minutes or less, the staying power is in the thinking, reflecting and discussion after you read it. Perfect for gifting, perfect for hash-tagging, perfect for pushing traditional thinking of leadership.
