Our 8th grade students were definitely the stars of the show Wednesday evening at The Poetry Cafe. What a performance they put on!

These very same students will have yet another opportunity to shine next Friday when they portray "The Living Stations of the Cross."  If you have never seen this presentation, we urge you to join us for this extremely touching reenactment. Two presentations are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Church.

Enjoy a restful weekend.

Peace and God's blessing,

Ann E. Dougal

 Can and Bottle Drive

Save Us Your Cans And Bottles

Whether you are hosting Easter Dinner or just having a few friends over, chances are you might have a few empty bottles or cans at the end of the day.  We ask that you put them aside for the SMA Can and Bottle Drive taking place on Saturday, April 27th from 9 a.m. to noon.

All you have to do is pull into the Wheeler Avenue parking lot side of the school and students will unload your bottles and sort them! It's easy!

Help us to help our school raise a few extra dollars!

 Perfect Attendance

Good Attendance Pays Off !

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Here are this weeks winners!

From The Classroom of Ms. Callahan

Exploring the Northeast

The fourth graders in Ms. Callahan's Social Studies class have been busy the past couple of weeks exploring the Northeast region of the United States. The students studied the different states in the region and learned about what makes each state unique, such as its history, resources, landforms, and attractions. With this new information, the students started creating their own brochures about the different places in the Northeast.

Collaborating in groups, they identified well-known places in the region and included important information about that place in their brochures. Some of the popular destinations that the students selected included Boston, Cape Cod, and New York City.

  Catholic Identity

Living Stations of the Cross

Mark your calendars for next Friday, April 12th, when our 8th grade students will be portraying "The Living Stations of the Cross."  The reenactment will take place at 9:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m.

We hope you will be able to join us for one of these powerful performances.

Catholic Identity

The Crucifixion

Today, our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Dan Baillargeon, joined us for a presentation to the middle school students about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  His powerful words helped the students understand exactly what Jesus went through from His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, to His scourging and crowning with thorns, to carrying His cross, to His eventual crucifixion.

Thank you Dr. Baillargeon for your thoughtful and outstanding presentation.

  Catholic Identity

Stations of the Cross

We thank our 4th grade students for leading us in the Stations of the Cross this week.

School Mass

A thank you goes out to Fr. David Aufiero from Holy Name Church for celebrating Mass with us this week.  His Lenten message of prayer, fasting and almsgiving tied nicely into what the students are learning in school.

We also thank our 4th grade students for doing a great job hosting the Mass.

 Poetry Cafe

8th Grade Students Impress With Their Poetry

If you were there - you were impressed.  If you were not there - you missed a special night. We are talking about The Poetry Cafe which was held this past Wednesday evening.

The evening featured self-penned poetry by the 8th grade class which was then performed amidst three stages.  The poetry was filled with deep thoughts, comedy, and entertainment.

Nicely done 8th grade students!

Schools NEXT

St. Michael's Comes Out On Top!
St. Michael's Academy Schools NEXT Team
Wins Regionals

Last Thursday, the St. Michael's Academy winning Schools NEXT team, comprised of Liam Russell, Brenna Sears, and Sarah Szalai competed in the Northeast Regional SchoolsNEXT competition.

In front of a panel of school building industry experts, our students presented their ideas for a cost effective remodel of a portion of SMA. Students cited that innovative thinking sometimes is as simple as providing a more functional space for learning to occur. Later that same evening, the students were asked to present to the entire conference body at the awards ceremony.

Our amazing students were named the 2019 Northeast Regional winners, moving us to the national competition level to be held digitally in May. We are very proud of the accomplishments of this group of students.  This is a perfect example of the success of students when home and school work together!

 Student Council

East Basket Raffle

The Student Council is, once again, sponsoring an Easter basket raffle!

Starting on Monday, April 8th, students can send in a dollar (or more) to purchase a ticket for a chance to win a beautiful basket full of Easter goodies. The money can be brought in an envelope with the child's name and homeroom. The money raised will be going to the Gray House. The winner will be drawn on Friday, April 12th.

Good luck to everyone.

Dine and Donate

 Thank You !

We send out a HUGE thank you to all of our families who participated in the Dine and Donate program this past Monday evening at Texas Roadhouse.  As a result of our SMA family coming together and dining, we were able to raise $320 for our school.  The best part?  We all had the opportunity to have a great meal at the same time!
