Food Pantry and BEDS Collection Day
on Nov. 24th: 11:30-1:30
If you are able, please bring food donations for the Food Pantry and/or coats for BEDS when you come for your pie pickup.
Responding effectively to COVID-19 has been a challenge, but BEDS was able to pivot and deliver emergency shelter during a mass quarantine. In mid-March we created a congregate 24-hour shelter at St. Barbara’s in Brookfield, which moved to Salem United Church in Oak Lawn after two months. However, there were many who needed help. As a last resort, we placed these clients — often families — in motel rooms. By the end of July, we provided 12,506 shelter nights to 234 adults and children and provided them with 37,518 meals. (taken from BEDS Newsletter)

The above are statistics from the BEDS Plus Community. Here at St. John's we are thankful for the continued support and donations that we are able to provide to BEDS. We continue to make MOTEL Meals for 40 clients each month and have recently donated many coats, yarn, mittens, and t-shirts. If you would like to help out in supporting BEDS please reach out to k.pece@stjohnslagrange.org
Meals To Go

St. John's Meals to Go program was recently highlighted in the LCMS Northern Illinois District News. Here is the link: NIDnews.org

There will be a Thanksgiving Meal provided by Meals to Go for people in need. Also a food pantry collection is shcheduled for November 24 from 11:30 - 1:30 during the pie pick up. The final Meals to Go is scheduled for December 6th.
As the weather starts to get colder, BEDs Plus is currently in need of coats for their clients.  They have the following specific request: ONLY STURDY & WARM WINTER COATS: gently used or new coats in good condition for Men and Women in sizes XL,XXL and 3XL. NO formal long coats, dress coats or lightweight coats. Their clients cannot use these. Please place them in a box that will be provided in the narthex.
6th Grade
Eagles in Action
Get Prepared to Help!
Please plan to help St. John's 6th graders with their coming Eagles in Action project which starts on the first day of Advent, Sunday, November 29th. Next week in the Mission, the Ministries, and the Wings newsletters, a link will be provided so you can join our sixth grade class in helping provide food for local food pantries. The link will lead you to St. John's Food Pantry Advent Calendar.

Follow the calendar from days 1-24 and learn how you can help by adding an item to a designated box or bag each day. There will be paper bags available in the narthex labeled "St. John's Food Pantry donation" or you are welcome to use your own box or bag. Please drop off in your classroom/narthex by December 22nd.

You are welcome to share the link with your friends and family so they can help too. Please contact Rebecca Schiltz at schiltz4@sbcglobal.net or Tom Wykert at t.wykert@stjohnslagrange.org if you have questions.

Please note that the link will not be activated until the FIRST DAY OF ADVENT which is Sunday November 29th!!!! Check the Mission or the Wings weekly to find out further information.
