SUMMER EXPLORING KICK OFF
June 9 Ages– All Limit: None
Time: Saturday 9am–11am Cost: Free

Are you interested in learning more about Caldwell County 4-H and Caldwell Public Library’s summer programs? Come meet the 4-H youth development staff, Junior Leaders, Junior Leaders in Training and Volunteers. Free games and activities for families with children of all ages.

Cloverbud STEM Day
June 12 Ages 5-8 Limit 10
Time: Tuesday 9am-12pm Cost $10

Come participate in STEM Activities with Legos! STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn. Get ready for some LEGO-fun STEM activities. Snacks and water will be provided. Instructors: 4-H Staff, volunteers, and junior leaders. Parents will drop off participants at the Caldwell County Extension Office.


Junior STEM Day
June 13 Ages 9-13 Limit 10
Time: Wednesday 9am-12pm Cost $10

Come participate in STEM activities with pennies, pipe cleaners, tape, cups, and more JUNK! STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn. Get ready for some interesting challenges during this STEM day! Snacks and water will be provided. Instructors: 4-H Staff, volunteers, and junior leaders. Parents will drop off participants at the Caldwell County Extension Office.


CLOVERBUD CAMP
June 18-20 Ages 5 -8 Limit: 10
Time: M-W 8:30am-12:30pm Cost: $75

Join us as we hike, fish, canoe, ride horses, make nature crafts, enjoy making new friends, and explore the creek at Anita Alta camp. This is a great beginning outdoor nature day camp experience with lots of variety and opportunities to learn while making new friends. Families are invited to join a hotdog lunch (food provided) and creek play on Wednesday at 11:30am. Snacks and water are provided each day. Parents will provide transport to and from Anita Alta, 2929 Mulberry Creek Rd., Lenoir. Instructors: 4-H staff, volunteers and junior leaders.


*JUNIOR CAMP*
June 18-20 Ages 9-13 Limit: 12
Time: M-T- 8am-4pm, W- 8am-12:30pm Cost: $75

Join us for three days of outdoor nature day camp at Anita Alta. We will enjoy a variety of activities and learning opportunities including canoeing, fishing, natural resource education, guided nature hikes, and nature crafts. Parents will provide transportation to and from Caldwell County Cooperative Extension Office. Participants must bring a packed lunch and drink for Monday and Tuesday. Snack and water each day and hotdog lunch on Wednesday is provided. Parents, please feel free to join us for lunch on Wednesday! Instructors: 4-H staff, volunteers and junior leaders.


*South Mtn State Park*
June 29 Ages: 7-14 Limit: 12
Time: Friday 8 am– 3 pm Cost: $10

Come and go with us to this state park. Participants will have two morning classes– Predator/Prey and Skulls and Skins where they will learn about South Mountain animals, their adaptations, and the habitat in which they live. We will picnic in the park and have an afternoon stream-side hike where you can learn more about watersheds, common plants, animals, and much more. Parents will drop off and pick up at the Caldwell County Ext. Office. Participants will need a bagged lunch and drink. Snacks and water will be provided. Instructors: 4-H Staff, volunteers, and Junior Leaders.


*Horsin’ Around Camp*
July 9-10 Ages 9 & up Limit: 15
Time: Monday-Tuesday 4pm-7pm Cost: $30

Location: Tough Enough Rodeo Arena 3205 Oran Yount Lane Granite Falls, NC 28630

Experienced and educated instructors will guide campers through horse riding lessons and learning about horse care, feeding, grooming, bathing, tack, safety. Campers must wear long pants and closed toe shoes. On the second night there will be a cookout and parents are invited to attend. Snacks and water will be provided. Helmets are required when on horseback and will be provided. Parents will drop off and pick up campers at Tough Enough Rodeo Arena Instructors- 4-H Saddle Club Leaders and 4-H staff and volunteers.



4-H Residential Camp
July 8-13 Ages 8-14 Cost: $420

*FARM TO FORK EXTRAVAGANZA*
July 16-19 Ages 7-12 Limit: 10
Time: M-Th 8am-3pm Cost: $25

This special week will bring all the elements of cooking, community, and farming together. This week’s journey will bring us to a variety of farms. On Thursday, we will dive into the kitchen to cook lunch with ingredients we collect from farmers throughout the week. Camp will begin and conclude at the Cooperative Extension office daily. Please bring a bag lunch and drink Monday through Wednesday. Instructors: 4-H and Family Consumer Science Staff, Junior Leaders, Special Instructors, and area farmers.



*Lake James*
July 26 Ages: 9-14 Limit 10
Time: Thursday 8am –3pm Cost: $10

Participants will be traveling to Lake James for a program, Aquatic Critters (an Environmental Educational Learning Experience) introduces students to the lakeshore environment, focusing on the plants and animals that live there. We will have a picnic lunch. The afternoon will be filled with activities such as hiking and swimming. Participants will need to bring bagged lunch, drink, change of clothes, towel, and sunscreen and bug spray. Instructors: Educational Rangers, 4-H staff, volunteers, and junior leaders.



*Discovery Days*
Jul 30-Aug1 Ages: 8-13 Limit: 10
Time: 8:30am-4pm Cost: $60 OR $20 per day if you only want certain days

Come join youth from Alexander, Caldwell, Catawba Counties for 3 days of discovery. Each day participants will enjoy an educational and recreational activity, and transportation will be provided from the Caldwell Cooperative Extension Center. Monday, July 30– Discover Devine Farms in the morning and a trip to Catawba Science Center in the afternoon. Tuesday, July 31- – A trip to Allison Woods in the morning and Statesville Water Park in the afternoon. Wednesday, Aug 1 – Healthy Living Activities at Glenn Hilton Park and then to a Crawdad’s Baseball Game. Transportation will be provided from the Caldwell Cooperative Extension Center to camp locations. Participants must bring a packed lunch and drink each day. Snacks and water will be provided. Instructors: 4-H staff, volunteers, and Junior Leaders



*African Safari Zoo Snooze*
Aug 2-3 Ages: 8-14 Limit: 12
Time: Thursday 3pm-Friday 6pm Cost: $45

Looking for a fun educational experience for your youth? A Zoo snooze may be just the thing for you. The NC Zoo offers exciting overnight programs to engage your brain, entertain your senses, and enhance your environmental awareness. Each overnight adventure includes special presentations, activities, a light snack, an outdoor experience and a craft to take home. The fun will resume the next morning, after a light breakfast, until 9 a.m. when we continue the adventure on our own in the N.C. Zoo’s 500-acre park. The price is well worth it because youth have a chance to explore the zoo after hours especially getting to see how they feed and care for some of the animals. The kids will sleep in the educational building at the zoo. This wonderful opportunity includes the zoo admission on the following morning as well. Transportation will be provided from the Caldwell Cooperative Extension Center to the NC Zoo. Participants must bring money with them to eat fast food on the way to the Zoo and a packed lunch and drink for Friday lunch. Breakfast, snacks, and water will be provided. Instructors: 4-H staff, volunteers, and Junior Leaders.



*4-H2O Day Camp*
August 13-15 Ages 9 and up Limit 10
Time: M-W 8am-2pm Cost: $30

Learn about a career in aquatic and fisheries biology. Participants will learn about water and related environmental quality areas. You will be getting wet! Sessions will involve advanced water biology and testing skills, electrofishing, and advanced macro-invertebrate identification. Transportation will be provided from the Caldwell Cooperative Extension Center to camp locations. Participants must bring a packed lunch and drink each day. Snacks and water will be provided. Instructors: Alexander County Extension and 4-H staff, Caldwell County Extension and 4-H staff, volunteers, Wildlife officers, and professional rafting guides.
