Where did July go?
It seems like this month flew by! We had one absolutely gorgeous, mid-70s week in the middle of the month, surrounded by heat and humidity every other day. Most days, it feels like we go from an air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car, then to an air-conditioned workplace (if we're lucky). Then at the end of the day, we do it in reverse. It can be tough to sit down and work on a quilt - or anything else - in the heat, but it's never too hot to plan a project or work out some bugs with your current one. All you need is a magazine or book, a pencil, and a piece of paper. Sketch out that dream project you have marked in your book or mag. Or draw something that's been turning over and over in your mind. Stop in at the quilt shop (it's nice and cool in here!) and feel the fabric. Ask for some advice on that step you just can't figure out. There's usually a way to move your projects forward, even if you're not seated at the sewing machine or in your favorite chair. That's what we're here for.

As the summer speeds by and Fall approaches, Cindy has a few quilt tops that need to be machine quilted before our October Make A Difference Day event. If there are experienced machine quilters out there who would like to assist our Helping Hands program and quilt one quilt, she would greatly appreciate it. Please email her at [email protected].

One final note for this month: In light of recent rising fabric prices, we are raising the price of our fat quarters starting August 1. Fat quarters are now $3.25 each, and if you buy ten or more, they will be $3.00 each.

Fall 2019 Class Update
Our Fall 2019 class schedule is coming along nicely, and we'll have lots more information in the next newsletter. Suzanne, however, has her class ready to go!

For anyone interested in taking Suzanne's fall class, Halloween Haberdashery, you can click here for more information, or to sign up online. She is starting off by running a "Cutting Only" class on Thursday, August 22 from 5 - 8 p.m. This will allow students to get all their cutting done, and when class resumes in September, be ready to sew. This one looks like fun!

Recent Fabric Arrivals

These are the highlights of recent arrivals. Click on the photo for a closeup look:

Food Festival

by Elizabeth's Studio

It's that time of summer when our gardens are bursting with fresh vegetables. Here, we've got  corn on the cob and lots of ripe peppers. These prints will make fun napkins and placemats, and an eye-catching apron!

Ombre

by Moda

Ombre fabrics are hot right now, and Judy's adding these to our inventory. What is everyone doing with their stash of ombre?  You can cut apart sections where the color changes and get four or five different shades, to be used in the same quilt! It's so great when the fabric does some of your work for you, isn't it?

Dog Breeds

by Elizabeth's Studio

Puppies!! What's not to love about these? Really good dog prints have been few and far between recently. Judy saw these and knew we needed to add them to the shop. Is your favorite dog hidden somewhere in this group of fabrics?

Fusions

by Robert Kaufman

Since we're stocking up on tone-on-tone prints, we thought we'd add a few from this very popular fabric line. Great for star points, accents, bindings, and more, Fusions are so versatile!

Farm Animals

by Elizabeth's Studio

We always have cow prints in the shop - this is Vermont, after all. It never hurts to add another good one (top in photo), especially when it's realistically done. Horse prints, however, have become pretty rare. This one is also realistic (bottom in photo), so we're sure it won't last very long!  And below is one of our new panels, with all the animals you'll find on a farm. It's perfect if you're making our "Home for the Holidays" pattern, which you can see, and purchase, by clicking here.

City Dreams

by Clothworks

This group has such rich colors - the prints look almost painterly. Add a few more as complements, and one of the panels below, and you can easily make yourself a piece of art for your wall! For a more complex project, you could purchase several of one of the panels and make a Stack and Whack quilt.

Notions, News, and Other Interesting Stuff

If you've been in the shop recently, checking out our notions walls, you may have noticed that we're carrying a new line of rulers. They are Quilters Select Rulers, from internationally-known quilter Alex Anderson. Alex has refined the traditional quilters ruler, adding one very important feature - a permanent non-slip coating on the back for more accurate cutting. They really stay in place once you set them down to cut, which tends to be Problem #1 for all of us!

We have several different sizes in stock, so make sure you stop in and see them. We're also using one at the counter, so feel free to ask us if you can give it a try yourself!

Alex has a short video below describing all the attributes of these new rulers:
