A Message And A Request from
Larry Movshin, Chairman

April 15, 2020
4:30 PM

I am very happy to report in this Message that there are no "new" governmental mandates or guidelines to report so far this week - at least nothing that changes the way that CSA is conducting business or operating to protect the health and safety of our property owners, guests, and staff.

So I am writing today to recognize with appreciation the very high level of compliance with governmental guidelines and mandates that we have observed within the Sea Pines community: in our neighborhoods, on our beaches and bike trails, and around our public areas at Harbourtown and South Beach Marina. We believe that our Sea Pines’ community’s consistent compliance with the Governor's mandated (and CSA's long-recommended) "shelter in place" guidelines is one factor that has resulted in the number of identified cases of COVID19 in the entire 29928 zip code (of which Sea Pines is only a small portion) remaining relatively low.  We recognize that we still have a long way to go before we can get back to any sense of normalcy in our lives, as the impact of the COVID19 pandemic is likely to last for some time. But as Sam Bennett and I have noted in our several messages and letters to the Sea Pines Community, if we each stay at home except for necessities and recreation, practice good social distancing, and generally act as "good neighbors" in protecting ourselves and our neighborhoods, we will get through the 'abnormal' of today to the "new normal" of tomorrow much sooner and in much better shape as a community.

We also must recognize that even with the relatively low number of reported cases in our area, our first responders, CSA security and law enforcement staff, and medical personnel on our Island and in the County continue to risk their health and safety to assist those who have contracted this terrible disease, some of who have, sadly, succumbed to it. As we have seen in many other jurisdictions, the 7pm hour has been set aside to recognize these brave individuals by stepping briefly outside (or in bigger cities opening windows) and ringing bells and cheering for a five-minute period.  I hope you will agree that this is a very touching and uplifting practice in the face of seriously difficult circumstances being faced in so many large cities.

So I am writing to ask each of you in Sea Pines to join in celebrating the acts of these brave "first responders" and medical teams with a new Sea Pines “practice”. Starting on Friday, April 17 at 7 pm, let's all go outside, and ring bells and applaud our community’s first responders for five minutes. It will be a good opportunity to see your neighbors (from a safe distance and perhaps for the first time in several days). More importantly, it will confirm that Sea Pines remains strong in the face of this pandemic and grateful for those who are on the front lines of fighting it for us.

So let's " meet on the Street " at 7 pm on Friday, April 17 to celebrate our "heroes"!!!! If you are not “home” in Sea Pines, but instead reading this from somewhere else in the country, please join us in this community event, as you are, of course, a vital part of our Sea Pines Community too!!  And let's make this our new weekly "Happy Hour" Friday night tradition until the Governor's Emergency Orders no longer keep us in our homes sheltering in place.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to write to me at chairman@csaseapines.com or Sam Bennett at president@csaseapines.com .

Regards,
Larry Movshin
