Welcome to FTR, Crystal!
Fit To Recover is excited to welcome Crystal Yazzie to the team as she assumes the role of Community Service Pillar Director! Crystal began her recovery journey 3 years ago at her “home of new beginning”, The Haven. Service work has been a huge part of her recovery, motivating her to become more connected to the community around her.
Crystal believes in advocacy through community service and views service work as an act of love; both for others and for self. In addition to taking charge of the FTR Community Service Pillar, she works with Odyssey House of Utah and volunteers with Utah Harm Reduction Coalition. She also enjoys all forms of art, dancing, and music. Her favorite cereal is Chocolate Lucky Charms and when she is not out in the community spreading love through service work, she enjoys spending time with her young daughter and their family cat, Johnny.
Volunteer Spotlight: Barbara Talbot
This month’s volunteer spotlight is dedicated to Barbara Talbot.
Barbara is the mother of Quinn Prymek, a special member of the FTR family and FTR men’s group leader, who passed away 2 years ago this May.  Barbara was instrumental in the planning and design of the FTR memorial garden. Her vision was to create a sanctuary where friends can reflect and connect with the memory of loved ones lost to substance abuse and mental health disorders. In May of 2017, Barbara made her vision a reality with the unveiling of the memorial bench. Each month, Barbara volunteers her time to the garden, where she can be seen adding loving additions of ornaments and seasonal decorations.
Thank you, Barbara! Your love for Quinn and your consistent dedication to the garden has given our members a special place to connect and remember their loved ones.

Join us on May 20 th at 12 pm as we celebrate the memory of all those who have lost their battle with addiction with an event in the FTR memorial garden. We will be assembling “Blessing Bags” with items for those experiencing homelessness, writing messages on seed paper and planting them in the garden, and spending some quiet moments of reflection as a community.

Tessa and Courtney do Ayurveda!  Sunday May 20, 10:45 am-12:00 pm

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicine aimed at using food as medicine. We can bring balance to our bodies, mind, and spirit through the foods we are eating and the movements we do.
Join Tessa and Courtney for a brief Introduction to Ayurveda to find out what YOUR "doshas" (or element/energy) are, followed by a yoga practice focused on pacifying poses and breathing! We will enjoy some dosha-balancing food afterwards. Click HERE to find out more.

Swing Challenge Complete!

The first week in May concludes the Swing Challenge!  Members signed up last month to commit to complete 1600 kettlebell swings in 30 days. Challenges are designed to increase member accountability, foster connection and leave members with sense of accomplishment (and an awesome challenge completion t-shirt!)

“I’ve only been participating in the challenges for a year, but every time I am doubtful and scared in the beginning.  By the end, I reflect on my awesome feeling of accomplishment, and how amazing it is that my body now knows a movement perfectly.  I’m also better at connecting with my peers because we all get to achieve our goal together!” -FTR Member
Stay tuned for details on the next challenge. Let’s get stronger TOGETHER!
