A Note from Rhetta

We usually think of Stewardship season as taking place in the fall, when we talk quite a bit about how we spend our treasure. Well, I submit to you that we are now entering Stewardship season, Part Two, when it is time to really reflect on time and talent.

Next Sunday, May 20, we will be holding a fabulous Ministry Showcase at 10:15 a.m. in the parish hall. This means we will be recognizing and celebrating our mighty heroes and giving you a chance to see how you can be one of them.

Unlike certain other superheroes, these valiant servant-leaders eschew the weapons of war in favor of the gifts of the Spirit: faithfulness, hope, and love.

Here is just a partial list of some heroes you might encounter that Sunday--

Names: White Linen & the Green Thumb (aka Altar and Flower Guilds)
Powers: Able to care for holy things, create a beautiful environment, and ensure that all safely partake of the Lord’s Supper.
Names: Captain Attentive & The Glad Morning (Ushers and Greeters)
Powers: Enhanced hospitality, keen eye for the comfort and well-being of the assembly, complete discretion while passing the plate.
Name: Team Green (aka The Green Team)
Powers: Harnessing the power of knowledge and action to bring healing to Creation.
Name: Wonder Twins (St. Margaret’s Guild & the Brotherhood of St. Andrew)
Powers: Combining the powers of faith, fellowship, and service to maximize the Good News.
Name: The Emissary (Eucharistic Visitors)
Powers: Deep compassion and desire for spiritual connection.
Name: The Stitch (Prayer Shawl Ministry)
Powers: Prayer! Fearless in the face of mountains of yarn.
Names: Professor Wow & The Wrangler (Sunday School, Youth, and Adult Formation)
Powers: Able to find joy in just about anything.

The list goes on and on: musical heroes, liturgy heroes, even office heroes! There are countless ways to be a superhero, no matter what powers you possess. Not sure of your powers? Maybe it’s time for you to explore what gifts lie within you! Come out of hiding and reveal your true identity as one of St. Margaret’s Mightiest Heroes!

Upcoming Youth Events

Summer Mission Trip
North Carolina Coastline Disaster Relief
July 15-21 (age 14 and up – this is because there is power tool use) Cost: approx. $250 (scholarships are available) Deadline July 1

Brethren Disaster Ministries' Rebuild Program engages volunteers to repair and rebuild storm damaged homes for some of the most vulnerable disaster survivors, thereby easing trauma and promoting recovery. Trained construction leaders and household leaders provide volunteer orientation and instruction on the work site, as well as meals at the volunteers' houses. Unskilled volunteers willing to learn are invited to work alongside those who are skilled and willing to teach. Volunteer housing is provided, often at local churches or community buildings, where weekly volunteers and leaders stay, eat and become more connected with the community.

Youth Lock In on June 15
DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND we will close out the youth program year with Bubble Ball at our next Lock-in on Friday, June 15.

Go to  http://www.bubbleballmd.com/#about for more information.

Participants will meet 6 p.m. on that Friday evening at the church, and can be picked up the next morning between 8 and 8:30 a.m. A $15 participation fee is required to help defray the cost of the rental.
Summer Planning for SMC Youth
We are looking for parents of SMC youth to host an activity so that our youth will have a chance to get together and have some fun this summer. Nothing fancy. You could do a game-and-pizza night, an afternoon bowling out of the hot Maryland sun, or even running through the hose in your back yard! The church can provide you with $50 to defray any costs incurred, and we will provide you with the e-mail list so you can stay in contact with folks. To follow up, contact Jeff Conover.
