We would like to extend an invitation to our community to visit the art and science show to see the many wonderful creations that our students have produced. Come and join us as we celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of our students at MBSCS.

RENAISSANCE STAR TESTING
As of tomorrow, May 11th, our school will complete the Renaissance Star assessments. Our testing began on Monday, April 23 and continued until Friday, May 11th. Grades two through eight took the assessments in reading and math. Our kindergarten students took the Early Literacy version of the Renaissance Star and our first grade students took the Early Literacy and Math tests. Considering that this was our very first experience with the Renaissance Star assessments, everything seemed to go very well. Our upgrade to fiber optic internet was a timely benefit to the online testing format of the Renaissance Star assessments. Our students were, as always, very cooperative in the assessment sessions and most reported that they favored the Renaissance Star over the Terra Nova assessments.
One of the benefits of the Renaissance Star is that student performance results are available immediately. Parents will receive the results of the performance of their children in next week's Thursday folder along with an informative communication from the Catholic Schools Office.
While we firmly believe that all assessment data is valuable in evaluating student growth and in the instructional planning process, we must keep in mind that this particular testing experience was new for our students and our teachers. This administration of the Renaissance Star was an opportunity for teachers and students to gain insight into the requirements of the tests.

SPRING PIANO RECITAL
The end of year Spring Piano Recital will take place at 6:00 p.m. on May 30th in the cafeteria. Please join us.

ACTION ALERT FOR MARYLAND FAMILIES OF MBSCS
The Maryland BOOST Program is a state sponsored tuition support initiative for families who reside in Maryland and choose to have their children attend nonpublic schools in Maryland. BOOST is funded by private donations from donors who receive tax incentives for their donations. All Maryland resident MBS families who have reenrolled or have newly enrolled their children are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements for the Maryland BOOST Program (refer to the Parent Survey that accompanies this communication) and complete the application if they may be eligible. Eligibility follows the guidelines for free and reduced meals that is also used to determine our school's federal funding for Title II-Part A, Title I and Title V. A flyer from the Maryland State Department of Education that provides details for completing the BOOST application process is accompanying this communication. Please see the flyer from the MSDE for the link to the application.  BOOST Flyer

In order to assist families in determining if they may be eligible for tuition support through the BOOST Program, we are including the Parent Survey which families complete in September of each school year. If after reviewing the Parent Survey, you feel that you may qualify for BOOST funding, please complete the application and submit it before May 21, 2018. Parents do not need to complete the Parent Survey at this time as it is provided as a guide to assist in determining possible eligibility for BOOST. Family Survey

THE APPLICATION PORTAL IS NOW OPEN, AND MAY ACCESSED THROUGH THE FLYER FROM THE MSDE.

ONCE AGAIN, THE DEADLINE FOR BOOST TUITION SUPPORT IS MAY 21, 2018.

Please feel free to contact Mr. Record for assistance with this process.

COUNSELING CORNER
This week I visited Pre3 and Pre4.  We read a book called, "I'm Special, I'm Me!"  This book highlights a little boy being encouraged by his mom.  This little boy gains confidence from the encouragement of his mom and her love.  Happy Mother's Day to our wonderful MBS m others!

I met with the 7th grade and we did a relaxation exercise to help in times of stress or worry.  It is important that we encourage the use of tools to help our children cope.  Feel free to contact me if you need any tips on this.

Our 8th grade had a guest speaker, Kim Klump from The Jesse Klump Memorial Foundation to talk about suicide prevention.  Please view this website to learn more about this wonderful, local foundation  http://jessespaddle.org/ . This foundation began in March 2009.  They hold Jesse's Paddle yearly to raise money for scholarship and education.  The paddle this year is July 21st in Snow Hill.  Our 8th graders learned how to see signs of suicide, how to get help for themselves or friends and how to communicate with parents.  Parents, please have a conversation about this with your 8th grader today.  We need to communicate with our children, even about the hard stuff.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns at [email protected].

Vision Statement

Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School provides rigorous and technologically relevant instruction that is intentionally integrated with Catholic identity.  Together, as Pastors, administrators, teachers and parents, we nurture the development of the mind, the body, and the soul, in each of our students.  Our students are able to make sound decisions based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and modeled upon the lives of the saints.  As a faith and learning community, we teach students a passion for the truth and a love for discovery and knowledge. Our students are prepared to relate their Catholic faith to their culture and actively live their faith as members of the greater community.
