CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY
June 25, 2018
Periodic Nightly Closure of
Terminal B/C Arrivals Roadway
Follow detour to passenger pick-up zone
Summary of Impacts
  • Beginning Tuesday, June 26, sections of the Arrivals (lower-level) roadway used by private vehicles will close overnight (Midnight to 9 a.m.) as needed for work related to Project Journey.
  • Drivers should follow detour signage to access the passenger pick-up zone when closures are in effect.
Details
  • As needed for several months, from Midnight to 9 a.m. sections of the Arrivals (lower-level) roadway of Terminal B/C (Gates 10-45) used by private vehicles will be closed for construction.
  • Private vehicles will follow detours through slip-ramps to access the Arrivals level passenger pick-up zone.
  • Drivers should use extreme caution navigating the detour route and obey the 15-miles-per-hour work zone speed limit.
  • As an alternate, private vehicles can pick up passengers on the Departures (upper-level) curb.
  • Construction activity related to the building of two New Security Checkpoints will take place in the work zone.
  • Guidance for drivers will be continuously broadcast on AM1640, the airport’s roadway advisory radio station.

Project Benefits
  • Closing the area will provide space for construction crews to drill foundations for columns and install utilities to enable construction of two New Security Checkpoint buildings above the roadway.

Timing
  • Overnight closures will be in effect for several months from Midnight to 9 a.m., as needed for construction activity.
  • At all other times, three lanes will remain closed on the Arrivals (lower-level) roadway.
About Project Journey

When Project Journey is completed in 2021, two new 50,000-square-foot buildings with security checkpoints will replace three smaller checkpoints currently serving Terminal B/C – increasing the post-security space to include all of National Hall and its premier shops and restaurants for ticketed travelers. In addition, a new 14-gate concourse will replace Gate 35X – ending the need for travelers to ride buses to board regional jets parked outside. Concourse amenities will include jetbridges, holdrooms, concessions and an American Airlines Admirals Club lounge.
