Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 

City Council
  • The Westland City Council will hold Budget Study Sessions on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00 am, Monday, April 8 at 6:00 pm and Wednesday, April 10 at 6:00 pm regarding the Budget Departmental Reviews. The study session will take place at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Road.
Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA)
  • The TIFA/EDC Board promotes economic and business development through programs and public improvement projects that create economic opportunity, provide entrepreneurial support, and preserve property values. Regularly scheduled board meetings take place the second Tuesday of every other month at 8 AM at City Hall, 36300 Warren Road and are open to the public.
Library Board Meeting
  • The Library Board meeting is Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 pm in the Library's Community Meeting Room, 6123 Central City Parkway and are open to the public.

Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center invites you to the Lower Rouge River Water Trail Public Open House - on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. at 32150 Dorsey Street. Friends of the Rouge (FOTR) has been working on a strategic planning process to develop a water trail along the Lower Branch of the Rouge River. At the open house you can view a draft of the plan, give your input and share your thoughts, and connect with fellow river users and learn how to get involved.

Friday Night Movie at Westland Library -  join us on  Friday, April 12  at 6:15 p.m.(doors open at 6:00 p.m.) at the William P. Faust Public Library of Westland in Meeting Rooms A and B for Aquaman. Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center is hosting Be Proud! Be Responsible Workshop - on Saturday, April 13 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at 32150 Dorsey Street. This workshop is open to youths between the ages of 12 & 18. FREE snacks, lunch and prize will be provided to participants. Join  us for a fun and interactive workshop. Teen Book Spine Poetry Contest at Westland Library - Monday, April 1, 2019 - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 , for grades 7- 12. During the month of April, grab a bunch of books with interesting titles and stack them up to create a column of poetry. You can make it funny or serious. Snap a photo of your masterpiece and presto, you're done! Show your picture to someone at the youth desk and get a small prize! Westland Writes Submissions at Westland Library - Monday, April 1, 2019 - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 . Celebrate National Poetry Month with your own written creations. Westland Writes is the library's 10th annual poetry and short story book collection with works by local poets and authors (previous books can be found in the library's collection). Each writer may submit up to 2 poems or 1 short story or chapter (max. 2500 words, email only) for the book to: [email protected]  Submissions from writers living in communities neighboring Westland are accepted. Submissions will be accepted from April 1 to April 30. Please include your name, email and phone number with each submission. Compost Season began -  on  Monday, April 1 , the City of Westland began picking up compost for the season. Compost is garden waste, grass clippings, hay/straw, leaves, pruning debris, bushes/shrubs and tree branches. The compost program does not accept animal waste, dirt, food scraps, pumpkins, roots/root balls, sod, stumps, vines or any landscaping material (gravel, garden wall, stone, mulch, wood chips etc.).  Branches are to be cut down to 4 ft. or less and should be no larger than 3 in. in diameter.  Branches should be put into small bundles and tied with rope or twine.  You may put out up to 10 bundles a week.
You may use compost bags or garbage cans for compost disposal.  The limit for compost collection is ten (10) compost bags or five (5) garbage cans, with no bag or can weighing more than 50 lbs.  We DO NOT accept compost in cardboard boxes or plastic garbage bags. Compost is picked up the same day as regular trash.  A separate truck picks up compost.  Your compost should be separated from your regular household trash by 4 ft.  Mixed compost and trash will not be picked up. To report missed compost, go to Service Request on the Department of Public Service page.
