Thank You from BTK-8 Food Program
Please see the following letter from Samantha Woogerd, the Food Program Coordinator at Broadview-Thomson K-8. She sent it after receiving over $1,200 in gift cards for the program as part of this year's Giving Tree. The continued generosity of our St. John Community means so much to so many every day and is greatly appreciated.

Your amazing Blessing of the Backpacks donations last fall supported our community with food up to the Christmas break. Your generous Giving Tree Christmas gift card donations will now go toward purchasing shelf stable items such as assorted vegetables, beans, rice, pasta, apple sauce, snack bars, crackers, pasta sauce, and toiletry items. Currently, we are providing food to between 450-500 individuals on our Tuesday distributions, nearly double the number of people we served in late spring of 2020. 100% of your giving has a direct and immediate impact to hundreds of families in the Broadview neighborhood. We cannot thank you enough for your thoughtfulness and kindness over these months and years. With our deepest gratitude, Sammy and the entire staff and faculty at Broadview Thomson PreK-8 School."

Look for Your End of Year Tax Statements
Thank you to all who have supported St. John parish during the past year. Your continued generosity, even in these most trying times, has helped us to sustain our parish financially and to serve the ministries of St. John and the wider community.
As we do each year, we will be mailing a Tax Statement to all those on record as having made a donation to St. John Parish between 1/1/2020-12/31/2020. Look for them in your mailbox in the next week or so. St John Book (sometimes movie) Club
"Silence" is a film by Martin Scorsese and book by Shusaku Endo about 17th-century Jesuit missionaries in Japan who travel there to track down their mentor, a fellow priest. At the time, Christianity was banned in Japan, and those who practiced the faith were tortured and executed. Tens of thousands of Japanese Christians were persecuted, tortured and killed over the 250 years that the religion was outlawed. The two priests are forced to choose between apostasy and death. Read the book or watch the film, and join the book, sometimes movie, club on January 17th at 7:00 PM via Zoom. Join fellow Catholic parishioners for an amazing at home screening of this award-winning climate documentary.
Once, registered you will be able to watch the movie any time you like from January 21st to February 6th. We will also have a discussion about the movie and solutions discussed in the movie on Sunday, February 7th.

This year we are joining with the school in studying the Beatitudes.
Walk humbly with God...How does this theme look in our families, school, and community? We can walk humbly with God through the beatitudes! In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught His disciples (and us) about how to be perfectly happy (Heaven with God). In other words, He taught us how, in our earthly lives, we can live out the purpose for which God made us. Jesus taught us 8 ways of living called Beatitudes, so that we can begin to be perfectly happy with God in Heaven. Each month we will focus on one beatitude and how everyday saints, like you and me, can live out this beatitude.
Beatitude of the month
Act with justice... "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied." This blessing is for people who hunger for justice in our world. Children have a great capacity to see wrongs and often possess a simple view of complex issues. Perhaps our kids can use their creativity to solve some of the local injustices in schools and communities.
Cactus Flower
God created cacti to be able to survive months or longer without water, unlike humans who can only go without water for a few days. We not only need daily nourishment for our bodies, but also our souls. We will only be satisfied when we seek God daily for his guidance.
