Letter from the President: Don Killingback
|
|
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is a perfect time to reflect and appreciate the many blessings we have. Given the demands of work this time of year, we too often forget to recognize the fortunes in our lives.
While Thanksgiving is a perfect time to remember family and the wonderful things life has provided us, it's also a time to look at our business accomplishments for the year.
Accordingly, I would like to recognize and reflect upon our momentous achievements of 2019:
Strategic Alliances:
- Both Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) and Advertising Specialties Institute (ASI) strengthened our incentive industry objectives; we had significant presence at their conferences and also provided education at their shows.
- We have collaborated with a variety of other organizations to spread the word about incentives, corporate gifts and our members.
Chapters:
- IMA Europe Council continues to grow and prosper; the attendance at their quarterly in-person meetings continues to be strong.
- IMA Middle East & Africa has held multiple meetings this year with a focus on incentive & reward programs, membership and networking.
- IMA Brasil has developed strategically and cultivated a strong membership. Additionally, they are thrilled to host their Kick-Off Event this month!
IMA continues to be active within the industry to further our mission of
"Advocating for and promoting the use of incentives and recognition to improve business performance".
As previously mentioned, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the blessing we have. Let us not forget the blessings within our work lives. Many of us look to separate our personal and work lives yet, we strive for satisfaction in both because the two are inextricably linked. And if I may be so bold to say, our industry (incentive and recognition) plays an important part in achieving that satisfaction.
For now, best wishes for a joyous Thanksgiving and holiday season!
Sincerely,
Don Killingback
President

The PPAI Expo has promoted the Brand Pavilion as the place for premium incentives and corporate gifts while the ASI Shows offers the Corporate Gifts and Incentives Pavilion. Distributors can take advantage of free onsite education sessions at these events that are focused on teaching Distributors how to increase their bottom line by selling corporate gifts and incentives . . . and encouraging them to visit our IMA supplier booths!
Here are a few ways IMA/IMRA Reps and Suppliers can promote these educational sessions and connect further with the Distributor customer base:
- Get the word out! Send an email with the information about the sessions and your brand(s).
- Make it a contest! Connect with your regional PPAI association. Ask if they will promote the sessions on your behalf to their Distributor membership. Enter those who attend a session in a drawing for a prize of an item from your brand(s).
- Create a connection! Invite Distributors to a session and let them know you will meet them at the end of the session to give them a tour of your brands at the show.
- Save some money! Invite Distributors who complete any of the sessions to visit your booth and receive a coupon worth a discount, freight allowance, set-up fee or whatever will stand out as an offer that saves money - and increases profitability on that first order.
Incorporating distributor-specific outreach into your trade show planning and providing information on the education available is a great way to enhance your role as a trusted advisor to the Distributor community. Details about the sessions can be found on each show website:
ASI Show Orlando
,
PPAI Expo
and
ASI Show Fort Worth
.
Please contact
Angie Newgren
if you would like to volunteer in the IMA booth at any of these shows.

YMCA Philanthropy Partner Update
|
|
"In America, the zip code you're born in can determine your future. The Y's programs and services create opportunities
|
|
to succeed, no matter where you grow up" as shown in this
video
by the Y.
We can be part of the difference!
The IMA Holiday Donation Drive for the YMCA of Metro Chicago is underway. We are accepting donations and will continue through January 4, 2020.
Donating gift cards can help provide:
- New sports equipment (balls, cones, pinnies, fishing supplies, etc.) will help revitalize camp equipment to allow more children to experience a safe and active summer at the Y.
- New board games & STEM kits will provide new activities for monthly Family Nights at the Y for families to play, learn and bond with one another.
- Kitchen appliances and utensils will allow more healthy cooking sessions for low income families to learn the art of cooking healthy meals on a budget. This serves as a wonderful family bonding opportunity as well.
- Travel vouchers (hotels, airline miles, gas, etc.) will allow the Y to bring the gift of a college tour to a group of teens looking to explore post-secondary education opportunities. This is a huge aspect of what the Y does for the teens in afterschool and camp programs. Many would not otherwise think of college as an option for them. The Y wants to change that.
- Local "experiences" (restaurants, movie theaters, mini golf, museums, etc.) will help subsidize the costs of a field trip for YPals youth mentorship program to experience a fun and relaxing offsite mentor/mentee bonding experience. The Y's mentorship trips are often fully-funded by mentors, which can be limiting in what they can do. Donations of this nature would have a huge impact.
Make a donation by January 4, 2020!
When you are involved with the Y, you help bring about lasting personal and social change.
