July 5, 2018
Thank you!
As we close the books on fiscal year 2018, we want to say "THANK YOU" to the many alumni, parents, and friends who have given thoughtfully this past year.

Gifts offered as volunteerism, donated services/goods, and contributions to support the "We Believe" York Catholic Fund, facilities, tuition assistance, athletics, and other projects at YC are all greatly appreciated.

Your commitment to our school resulted in over 1500 gifts to York Catholic raising over $1,500,000.00, making this our greatest fundraising year in the recent history of York Catholic.

Thank you for your continued support of our students who would not realize the benefit of a York Catholic education without you.

Sincerely,

Katie Seufert '96
Principal

Summer Assignments
Reading
York Catholic High School views the development of life-long habits of reading as a hallmark of an educated man or woman, and it encourages each student to read widely throughout the year.  The school also recognizes the value of other on-going academic engagement during the summer months.  Summer reading and other intellectual activities serve to stimulate, to enrich, and to reinforce academic skills during the summer hiatus.  Each current student has received a packet with the assignments for summer reading.  The assignments are also available on the home page of the YC website at yorkcatholic.org in the Announcements section, titled, "Summer Assignments," and on the Forms & Documents page.  Each grade level's requirements are clearly explained and testing and/or projects are due at the start of the 2018-19 school year. Click  here for the list of books for the summer reading projects.  PLEASE NOTE:  There has been a change to the assignments for Incoming 10th Grade Honors and CP/Level II.   It has come to our attention that the summer reading selection of The Coming of the Dragon is out of print. We apologize for any confusion and concern this may have caused. Please disregard any summer reading assignment your child may have received in his or her English class.  We have replaced this selection with Matthew Harffy's Kin of Cain: A Short Bernicia Tale.  The new assignments have been updated on the website.

Math
Keeping students' math skills strong during the summer months helps to avoid the "summer slide" and aids in less review time when school resumes. Students should complete their Summer Math Assignments and return them by August 27.  The assignments are available on the home page of the YC website at yorkcatholic.org   in the Announcements section, titled, "Summer Assignments," and on the Forms & Documents page.
Immunizations Needed
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has established school immunization requirements for all students. The regulations are intended to ensure that children attending school in PA are adequately protected against potential outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. A child must have the required medically-appropriate vaccines or a plan to complete those vaccines or risk exclusion from school.

Children in grades 7-12 need the following immunizations for attendance:
  • 4 doses of tetanus * (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of diphtheria* (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of acellular pertussis* (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given)
  • 2 doses of measles, mumps, and rubella (usually given as MMR)
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B
  • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity
  • 2 doses meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)
    • 1st dose is given 11-15 years of age; a 2nd dose is required at age 16 or entry into 12th grade.
    • If the dose was given at 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.
  • 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) - age 11 or older

*   Usually given as DTaP or DTP or DT or Td

If you submitted doctor's documentation of the administration of these vaccines previously, you do not need to repeat this step unless an additional booster or immunization is needed or has been given in the past year. (Students entering grades 10, 11, & 12 - please note the dose requirements for the MCV vaccine.) All new students must submit doctor's documentation of the dates the above doses were administered to the York Catholic nurse by August 1, 2018. If any of the required immunizations will not be given by August 1, please click here for the PLAN form to detail the dates the immunizations are scheduled to be given.

Under Pennsylvania state law, students without the required immunizations or a plan with scheduled dates of administration on file, cannot be admitted to school.

If you have any questions, please contact York Catholic or consult the PA Department of Health website at www.dontwaitvaccinate.pa.gov.
Incoming 11th Graders - Physicals
The School Health Law of Pennsylvania requires that all children must have a medical examination upon entry into grade 11. A medical examination is also required for those children who have transferred to York into any grade from other states or from other Pennsylvania areas and who have not sent records of previous examinations. Please click here for the School Physical Form to be completed by a private physician. Return the form to the school nurse no later than August 1, 2018. Any student who does not return this form will receive a medical examination by a school physician.
Incoming 7th Graders - Dentals
The School Health Law of Pennsylvania requires that children receive a dental examination upon entry into grade 7.   Please click here for the School Dental Form to be completed by a private dentist. Return the form to the school nurse no later than August 1, 2018. Any student who does not return this form will receive a medical examination by a school dentist.
Sports Physicals
Students wishing to participate in athletics during the 2018-2019 school year must submit the following paperwork online:
  • PIAA Physical Form
  • Athlete & Parent Agreement
  • ImPACT Test
Students wishing to play any sport during the 2018-2019 school year MUST verify the paperwork is on file with Mr. Hayek no later than Wednesday, August 1, at 3 PM; no exceptions.

NEW!! PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT CHANGE

The York Catholic Athletic Department now hosts their Athletic Forms online with Arbiter Athlete, powered by PlanetHS, a software company committed to keeping student(s) safe. This digital platform will allow parents and athletes to complete and access most athletic forms (physicals, agreements, etc.) via computer, tablet, or mobile phone. It is HIPPA, COPPA, and FERPA compliant.
Before forms can be completed by parent and student, ArbiterAthlete accounts must be set-up by each athlete and his or her parent. Click
here for instructions on how to set-up an account. Forms will be valid for the entire 2018-2019 school year.

If your child did not attend the York Catholic Physicals Night at OSS, you will need to make an appointment with your family doctor or go to one of the Urgent Care Centers. Be sure to complete the information online and only print 2 pages (Sections 5 & 6) for the doctor to review and complete.

If your child did participate in York Catholic Physicals Night, be sure to complete step #3 in the instructions.

Failure to complete the online paperwork by the deadline will mean the student will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season. For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team. Contact Mr. Hayek at  bhayek@yorkcatholic.org or 717-846-8871 x244 if you have any questions and to be sure you have a valid ImPACT Test on file. If you need technical assistance with Arbiter Athlete/PlanetHS, email schoolsupport@planeths.com.
