City of Birmingham, MI
Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update 7/13/18
The Old Woodward Reconstruction Project is now 80 percent complete as work continued this week on above ground enhancements such as the new sidewalks as well as ongoing electrical and irrigation work.

Contractors have now completed the majority of the installation of the new sidewalks on Maple Rd. It is anticipated that all of the new sidewalks will be completed on the north half of the job (on Old Woodward, north of Maple) by the end of next week. In addition, crews continued to install the new concrete planter boxes on the south end of the project on Old Woodward (south of Maple).

Looking ahead to next week, it is anticipated that the new planter boxes will begin to be backfilled with topsoil and plants. In addition, it is expected that the installation of new trees will get underway. That work is targeted to start by mid-week (Wednesday, 7-18-18).
While the project is steadily progressing toward completion, anticipated to be in early August, the public is reminded that the construction zone is an active and fluid area. As such, the           City urges pedestrians to use common sense when walking to your favorite location whether it's to eat out or visit one of the city's many merchants. Please stay within the walled off areas that are designated for pedestrian traffic. Also, please follow existing signage when walking in or near the work zone. The public's safety is a major concern of the City and we ask for your cooperation and understanding as contractors work as fast as possible to complete the project as soon as possible. As a reminder, free parking in all City parking structures is available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) along with four, two-hour free valet parking stands strategically located near the construction zone.
