Dear Colleagues:
 Just a few items to report as we head into the holiday season. For those of you who were unable to attend the ACVSMR business meeting in Las Vegas last month, we have posted a video of the meeting on
YouTube and included a link below. The video provides a concise and complete overview of the different activities of the College over the past year, as well as plans for the upcoming year. It also provides you with a list of all of the different committees and their members - very useful for when you have specific questions that are not answered by the materials on our new website. The video is only 24 minutes long, so an easy watch while drinking the first cup of coffee in the morning.

As mentioned last month, the ACVSMR Board of Directors is planning to construct a strategic plan for the College in the next several months. We have retained Mr. Doug Raven as our strategic plan facilitator. Mr. Raven has helped numerous veterinary organizations in constructing strategic plans, and will be responsible for setting out the framework of the process, but not the strategic plan itself - that is up to the BOD and the College membership.
The process will follow the following (approximate) schedule: first, Mr. Raven will meet with the BOD by email and teleconference over the next month to get a general idea of the College's mission and history. He will then prepare a membership survey to solicit input from YOU (our members) on what you feel should be the priorities - both philosophical and tangible - of the ACVSMR over the next 5 years. He will also prepare a survey of the Board members to determine the specific strengths and challenges that the Board feels are most relevant in moving the College forward. All of this will be compiled into a plan for an intensive, single-day retreat that is scheduled for early May 2020. The members of the BOD will meet in person to develop a draft strategic plan, which will then be refined and formalized over the following month. We anticipate having a final strategic plan for the ACVSMR by late June, when it will be presented to the membership.
With all of that in mind, it is imperative that you think about what you want out of your College, and complete the survey when it hits your in-box early next year. The core functions of the College - specifically, its obligation to maintain a structure for training and certifying new specialists and recertifying existing specialists - will continue. But what ELSE do you want out of the College? Options include (but are certainly not limited to) things like a scientific journal specific to veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation, a charitable foundation to support research in the field of veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation, and a recurring stand-alone meeting of our College to facilitate dissemination of scientific, technical, and practical knowledge in our field. Or you can recommend priorities that are somewhat less tangible - for example, should the College prioritize outreach and if so, which audiences: animal owners, veterinary students, veterinarians, other specialists, and/or industry stakeholders? We may not have the resources to accomplish everything, but robust input from our membership should help ensure that we do our best with this process.

Diplomates: Pay Your Annual Dues by January 1st
ACVSMR Diplomates: Your 2020 ACVSMR Diplomate dues in the amount of $350 are now due. An email notification was sent to each diplomate last week.
To pay your dues online with a credit card, log into your ACVSMR profile at https://vsmr.org/.

Late Payment of 2020 Annual Membership Dues:
If payment is received between January 2 and March 31, 2020: Please Pay $400 (US)
If payment is received between April 1 and May 31, 2020: Please Pay $700 (US)
If payment is not received before June 1, 2020:
· Individual will be placed on inactive diplomate status.
· In order to return to active diplomate status, the individual will be required to pay all outstanding past and current annual membership dues, plus an additional membership reinstatement fee of $200 (US).

Call for Abstracts
ACVSMR Annual Educational Meeting, hosted in conjunction with the ACVS Surgical Summit

ACVSMR is dedicated to fostering research in sports medicine and rehabilitation topics by once again providing you an opportunity to present the results of your work at our special session at the annual ACVS Symposium. At least one author must be prepared to register for the conference and be available to present at their assigned time. Each prospective presenting author may submit a maximum of three abstracts for consideration.
Three canine and 3 equine abstracts will be selected for presentation based on the two-step process. We will be awarding the 6 winners (3 canine and 3 equine) a cash award and will reimburse for one day of registration for the ACVS Summit. Abstract awards will be as follows:
- 1st place: $300 award
- 2nd place: $250 award
- 3rd place: $200 award

Available Positions
ACVSMR offers a classified section to advertise job, internship, and residency opportunities. Job advertisements will be included in 3 issues of the ACVSMR email newsletter and posted on the ACVSMR website for 3 months unless a shorter time period is requested. Ads are complementary for 3 months for ACVSMR diplomates and $75 for 3 months for non-members. ACVSMR diplomates must be signed into the website for the fee to be waived.
