Maryland's high profile school funding commission this week released initial cost estimates for expanding pre-kindergarten in Maryland, a key element of its preliminary report. The sky-high price tag gave pause to some, while others were left with more questions than answers. The Kirwan Commission's work will continue, with many stakeholders deeply committed to both innovation and financing for Maryland schoolchildren, but concerns over fiscal viability and implementation will test the Commission's ambitious timeline.
