A Missionary Is......
A follower of Jesus who doesn't seek their own comfort
One who has left friends, family and home to deliver good news to others
One who goes to the world and doesn't expect the world to come to them
a worker for the Kingdom of Jesus
a doer of Jesus' commands not just a hearer
One who studies the words of Jesus and does them
a servant of others so that others will give glory to God
a worshiper of God in word and deed
a deliverer of the good news about Jesus to people in our community
a bringer of hope and deliverance to the poor and the oppressed
a voice crying out in a world of darkness
a person on mission in their own home town and not just over seas
One who sees mission all around them, everyday and everywhere
One who lives out the great commission everyday and not just on Sunday
One who understands that we all are the "hands and feet of Jesus" wherever we go
One who seeks connections with the world and doesn't avoid engaging with them
One who asks our community leaders, "what can I do to help you?"
One who feeds the hungry, serves the poor and shelters the homeless
One who understands that our time here on earth is short
One who prioritizes the mission of Jesus over our own comfort

The Helpline Food Bank Food Drive next Sunday
January 28th- 1-3pm at Albertson's Market
The holidays are over and the food bank distributed thousands of pounds of food to the poor during November and December. They are in significant need of new donations of food to fill their shelves and continue their ability to share food with those in need. Next Sunday, January 28th will be a service Sunday. Ekklesia will have an abbreviated worship gathering, then send out a crew of workers to the Albertson's market on Sedgwick Rd. to solicit food donations. We usually are able to fill over three or four shopping baskets of food within a two to three hour period. This will also be a great opportunity to be the light of Jesus in our community.   We will pass out donation fliers in front of the store entrances and also receive donations as shoppers leave the store.

Santana Village Update
Two months ago Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido announced that the new tiny house village would be named Santana Village. Sally Santana was a resident who lived in South Kitsap and passed away in 2013. Sally worked tirelessly as an advocate on behalf of the poor and homeless of our county. It was decided that the first prototype village for the homeless in our county should be named after Sally! 
Over the last few weeks county officials in the planning department have been working with Port Orchard city officials to clear all the permitting hurdles that are part of the village development. We know this process has taken quite some time but God is moving this ministry forward. We will continue to pray for the development of this village and that God will open the doors that need to be opened. 


Ekklesia to Build the Bath and Shower House for Santana Village
Ekklesia has been asked by Kitsap County Commissioner Garrido to begin working on designs for the new bathroom and shower building that will be placed in the tiny house village for homeless residents. This will be an extended version of our original prototype tiny house. Rick Bell (Ekklesia Church leader) has designed this new bath facility and it will house both toilet/sink rooms and also three shower rooms. One of the rooms will be large enough for wheel chair access.  The First Lutheran Church will also be partnering with Ekklesia to construct this new bath and shower house. A special meeting was held on Dec. 18th between the Kitsap County planners of the village and an architectural firm that has donated their time to be the designers and land development firm.

Also, last month a mechanical contractor firm in Silverdale has agreed to donate up to three mobile office trailers for use as the tiny house village offices, kitchen, security building and laundry facilities. One might be used for the security gate office, another for the storage and laundry and the third largest one for the kitchen and gathering room. We will most certainly be busy remodeling the interior of these three trailers as the deal is firmed up! Pray for everything to go smoothly!

  • Melissa Bell's step-dad, David Latham and his wife LaDonna as David struggles with health issues. 
  • James & Angela Goodman and family as they minister at the Sound View Christian Camp. Also for Heath Goodman as he recovers from surgery. 
  • The selection of a site for the Tiny Cottage Village-  A site is now being considered! We need prayers that all the red tape will be taken care of and the land preparations might begin.
  • Direction is needed as Ekklesia builders are designing the new bath house for the Tiny Cottage Village. 
  • The Parry family and Joe- as he has been deployed to San Diego for a few months.

Tiny Cottage Construction Update 

A big thank you to our local Lowes store who has stepped up to help park three of our recently built tiny cottages. Cottages #7, #8 & #9 are now parked in front of Lowe's. These three cottages will remain in front of Lowes until we receive the go ahead to move them to the new village site. Thank you to Valerie the store manager for accepting our request for help to park these tiny cottages in their parking lot.

Prayers are needed as Kitsap County planning officials are meeting with City of Port Orchard planning officials and determining the land use details on a piece of property we are considering for the new homeless village site. 

We will now begin the process of designing the community kitchen building and the bathroom building for the village. Several opportunities to build more tiny cottages will occur over the next few weeks. Volunteers will be needed. 

Ekklesia and First Lutheran will build two more cottages in the coming weeks. 
Grace Bible Church will build #7, #8 & #9 cottages on August 19th in their parking lot.
First Lutheran Church will now store three of the completed cottage in their parking lot.  #6, #3 and #10 
Habitat For Humanity has built #10 tiny cottage in Port Orchard
Kaiser Permanente Corp. has committed to building three tiny cottages on the three clinic locations across Kitsap County in the next few months.
United Methodist Church in Port Orchard has committed to giving the funds to build another cottage to Mr. Winn the SK High School wood shop teacher.
Spirit of Life Lutheran Church has committed to build a cottage in a few months.

We now have eighteen tiny cottages sponsored by local businesses, service groups or churches. Ten cottages have been built!

A new year has come and it is truly amazing to consider how Lisa and I have been blessed by so many people who have prayerfully choosen to support our work here in Port Orchard. We know that it is only through your commitment to Jesus and your desire to see our work flourish that we have been sustained these six year. Thank you for entrusting us with your love and support.
