FROM THE CHAIR
Off to a Great Start
Phil Rodriguez, Chair of the Board
The North State BIA has hit the ground running in 2019 with an outstanding first quarter. At the end of 2018, there was a hint of uncertainty about what would be in store for us in the coming year, but as always hard work and perseverance has led to a banner start.

Over the past few months we have seen high attendance and engagement from our members, as well as an increase of new members. Since January 1, we have 29 new members and membership currently sits at 532. More encouraging still, the attendance at events since the beginning of the year has been overwhelming.  The annual Crab Feed sold out and the upcoming Spring Golf Tournament sold out in just over an hour.  Our members are engaged and involved which is clear evidence of a strong association community.

The government affairs team has been hard at work for the building industry in the first quarter. When the state of California moved to implement new regulations for building in areas where wetlands are present, the government affairs team moved to action and advised and were successful in proving to the state that the proposed new regulations would duplicate permitting processes in areas where local regulations were already in place.

All this work and engagement is important so our industry can continue to flourish. In the first three months of this year, our BIA builder members have sold 1,328 homes and have welcomed 33,283 potential homebuyers into their communities.  In two of the first three months of this year, sales surpassed those of last year which indicates we are still on an upward trajectory.

I am so proud to be leading an association with so many accomplishments in a short time all due to our combined efforts as an association.  However, as always, we need to stay focused on the future.  I encourage all of you to stay active and engaged, bring in new members, and continue working hard to keep our industry moving forward. We are stronger together and our work so far this year has proven that to ring true.

HOMEAID SACRAMENTO
Wells Fargo 1510 Arden Way and HomeAid Sacramento partnered together in a dorm makeover at the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento on Friday, April 5th.  The Wells Fargo volunteers painted five bedrooms and a common area. They also tore up all of the dorm carpeting.
HomeAid has purchased new flooring with funds donated from Wells Fargo and will have the flooring installed later in April.

We were thrilled to be on Good Day Sacramento and the CBS 13 News at Noon.
THE FOUNDATION
Marquee Media Partners with the Foundation to Get the Word Out
Thank you again to Marquee Media for the artwork and billboard space to advertise the Skilled Trades Job Fair. We appreciate your talent and support of the homebuilding industry.

Our very own Clare Vanderpool and Mike Strech each took a photo of the billboard, but unfortunately for them, they weren't eligible for the $50 gift card prize. Be the first BIA member to email Amanda referencing the billboard and win the $50 gift card prize.

National Volunteer Week
The Foundation could not do all that it does without its volunteers. We appreciate all of our volunteers and the work they do, but in honor of last weeks National Volunteer Week we wanted to highlight a few!

Sunny Mills has been an OSY Program Volunteer for 4 years. You can usually find her at an OSY workshop on a Wednesday, helping our youth develop their work readiness skills. A former teacher, Sunny easily connects with the youth.

Nicholas Winn, COO of Winsol Groundworks, supports OSY as a WEX Employer, program guest speaker and volunteer. His enthusiasm and energy gives OSY a great boost.

Sean Hagerty has been volunteering with OSY for 2 years. He helps with instruction, mentors young men and helps them shop for work clothing as part of supportive services. Sean is passionate about making sure our OSY succeed.

Also, we are excited that Rob Penrod, who recently retired from Villara, will be helping the Foundation with their workforce development efforts.
