July is here and the summer heat is in full force. Thankfully, water flows through the heart of Chattanooga! Whether you’re looking for whitewater thrills or seeking the quiet solitude of a backwater slough, this beautiful city offers multiple ways to indulge your love of the water and beat the heat!

Outdoor Chattanooga Events
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Paddle
Sunday, July 8 | 8:00 a.m - 2:30 p.m.
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped kayak tour at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, located at the confluence of the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers about one hour north of Chattanooga. Cost: $45 per person - includes guides, equipment, and transportation from Greenway Farm or meet in Dayton. Registration and payment is required in advance as space is limited.

Kayak the Tennessee River Gorge
Saturday, July 14 | 8:00 a.m - 1:30 p.m.
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped kayak tour down the gorgeous Tennessee River Gorge. Cost: $45 per person - includes guides, equipment, and transportation to and from the river. Registration and payment is required in advance as space is limited.

Dam Sunset Kayak Tour
Saturday, July 14 | 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped kayak tour on the Tennessee River and the unforgettable experience of locking down through the Chickamauga Dam. Cost: $35 per person - includes all paddling equipment, guides, and transportation. Registration and payment required in advance as space is limited. Some kayaking experience helpful, but not required to participate. Ages 14+ with participating adult.

Paddle Smart - Intro to Paddling
Wednesday, July 18 + 25 | 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Do you have your own kayak, but lack the confidence to explore Chattanooga's scenic waterways? BYO-Boat (kayak, SUP, or canoe) and join Outdoor Chattanooga for an intro to flatwater paddling class that will give you the confidence to safely and smartly paddle Chattanooga's scenic waterways! Cost: $10 per person. This class is designed for participants who have and bring their own equipment. Location: Chester Frost County Park. Pre-Registration is required. Class size is limited. 

Battlefield Bike Tour
Saturday, July 21 | 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy a leisurely-paced   bicycle tour on the Chickamauga Battlefield with the National Park Service and Outdoor Chattanooga. Bicycles are available at no charge with reservation; contact the Visitor Center at (706) 866-9241 to reserve. Or bring your own. Ages 6+ (no training wheels please). Cost: Free. Helmets required for all riders.

Family Funday at Greenway
Sunday, July 22 + 29 | 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Pack a picnic and load up the whole family to enjoy a full day of activity at Greenway Farms City Park. Outdoor Chattanooga will provide equipment for families to try archery or take a self guided hike. Canoes can be rented for $25 to explore the creek. All other activities are free. Appropriate for ages 5+.

Community Events
Raft 4 Freedom
Wednesday, July 4 | 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Tennessee State Parks, Hiwassee/Ocoee State Park, and all 24 Ocoee River Rafting Outfitters want to thank our military for their service! On July 4th, any veteran or active military member will receive a free ride on the river with any Ocoee outfitter! Call an outfitter through July 1st to reserve your spot. You have taken care of us, let them take care of you!

BOTE Demo Days at L2
Wednesday, July 4 + 18 | 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Cool off this summer during a BOTE Demo day with L2 Outside ! They'll let you try out some stylish BOTE SUP boards so you can discover which one works best for you, your unique riding style, body type, and personal needs. Demo days are kid and pet friendly, but all children under age 12 must be on a craft with an adult. No RSVP needed, first come first served.

Greenway Farms Dog Walk
Saturday, July 14 | 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Load up your favorite furry friends and bring them to Greenway Farms for a mile-long walk with North Chick Creek Conservancy. There will be plenty of places for Fido to swim, play and mingle with other pups. No need to register. Please be sure to bring a leash.

Nature of Art: Swimming in Art
Saturday, July 21 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Swim through art (and the Tennessee River) on Saturday July 21 as part of "Nature of Art", a monthly series presented by Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center and the Hunter Museum of American Art. Each event involves an active outdoor experience along with a visual art connection. Open water swimming experience recommended for this event.
