THE PASTOR'S PAGE

Receiving a New Pastor-Part 1.

What a joy to be beginning in ministry with you all! Thank you for the many ways you have already showed me the ropes and welcomed me. There are many insights about receiving a new pastor which are a blessing for all. This week and next I'll share a few observations.

1. Expect me to be different. One of God's ways of bringing delightful variety to the world is creating each of us as different human beings. Don't expect me to sound like any of your previous pastors. Or to do the same things or to think in the same ways or to lead with the same style.

2. Don't wait for me to come see you. There are many of you but only one of me. Introduce yourself. Let's do a coffee together. Sign up if there are get-togethers latter in the summer or fall. I probably won't get your name at first. Plan to introduce yourself many times.   Thank you for wearing your nametags every week-it really is important.

3. Let me know where there is a need. If you need me, call, text or email. Put this cell phone number on your phone 307-287-2192.  If you go to the hospital, have a family member or friend call me if you're not able to. Regarding anything you told Rev. Russell, I will not know. Your relationship with me is ours to build.

4. Pray for me. Pray for me during the week, during worship and during my sermons.

I share in Paul's words from 1 Colossians {The Message bible}. "We can't quit thanking God and Jesus our Messiah for you! We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians." I'm looking forward to being with you in worship this week. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week.

Blessings,
Pastor Deb

UMCE YOUTH
HOMETOWN MISSION WEEK
Wed., July 18 -  Sun., July 22

The UMCE Youth Mission Squad will be conducting a "Hometown Mission Week" July 18-22. We will be in residence at the church and we will be going out in work groups to serve members of the congregation. Some of the projects we already have scheduled include:
  • An all-church dog wash. Bring your sociable dogs to the church and while your dogs get scrubbed up you will be entertained by the comic antics of the youth...trying to wash your dogs.
  • Property clean up and yard work for church constituents.
  • Indoor heavy-duty chores for constituents.
  • Indoor cleaning at the church
  • Plumbing at the church
  • Yard work and retaining wall work at the church
Please let us know how we can help you! We have more availability! Contact Sarah at  youth@evergreenumc.org  to sign up!

EChO LUNCH PROGRAM
DONATIONS NEEDED

Five churches agreed to take part in preparing meals for EChO volunteers and clients, and each have been providing soup September through May, one week per month since 2010.  It is amazing that dedicated volunteers from Evergreen Lutheran Church, Bergen Park Church, Church of the Transfiguration, Rockland Community Church and Congregation Beth Evergreen, with the support of their congregations have kept this going.  For 39 weeks a year a volunteer brings to the EChO office 4 to 5 gallons of home made soup to be served from a crock pot to anyone who comes to their door.  This year EChO wants to extend this ministry to the summer months with either salads or sandwiches that will feed approximately 160 hungry mouths each week.

As part of the Missions team, UMCE has signed up to make lunches the weeks of June 25-28, July 23-26 and August 20-23 for the EChO volunteers and hungry visitors to the food bank. This is where we could use some financial help to purchase the ingredients for these meals over the three weeks of our responsibility. Right now members of our prep team are Ruthanne Huber,  Debby Humphrey, Rene Kilmer,  Karen Olson, Clyde Sacks, Philip and Donna Schell,  Alice Slanec and  Jan Thurling.

There will be a donation basket available each Sunday. If you write a check, please clarify the intended use for EChO lunch program.
