Food Drive this Saturday at Cherrydale Safeway!
Food drives are a great way to collect food donations for Arlington families in need! We will have volunteers collecting donations from customers at the Cherrydale Safeway (3713 Lee Hwy) this Saturday, July 7, from 10 am - 6 pm. If you need to pick up some groceries this weekend, think about stopping by and pick out a few extra items for AFAC families.

If you can't make it out on Saturday and want to participate in a food drive, visit our Virtual Food Drive and support our Summer Hunger Challenge! Follow this link to donate.

Thank you to Maria Fernandez from Fulcrum Properties Group for nominating AFAC to be a part of the Fulcrum All Star Charity Contest! Follow this link and vote every day to help AFAC win $1,000! Contest ends July 17.

Plot Against Hunger
Thank you to our community partner Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture at Woodlawn Plantation for inviting us to harvest the last of their spring greens last week!

Gleaning is the ancient custom of leaving part of a crop in the field for the poor, widows, and orphans to harvest. AFAC gleans (harvests) crops at area farms and orchards throughout the summer and fall months. We welcome your help. Contact volunteer4afac@afac.org if you want to bring your company for a group event. If you know of a farm or orchard where crops cannot be brought to market (too small, too large, misshapen, or simply "not perfect), let us know so we might contact the owner to inquire about gleaning with them.
Thank you to the following Eagle Scouts for their help at AFAC's Plot Against Hunger gardens and gardens of community partners in the past few months: Liam O'Casey (extensions of raised beds at the Walter Reed Annex Garden, 2060 S. Walter Reed Drive, pictured right), Drew Kellenberger (raised beds at Bu-Gata for the Buckingham Youth Brigade and Buckingham Apartments community); Max Kappler (fencing at Arlington Central Library).

For more Plot Against Hunger updates, visit (and join) our official Plot Against Hunger Facebook group! Latest postings include updates from our Walter Reed Garden, Arlington Central Library, and Marymount University's garden - run by their Food For Thought club.
