Les Wilkes, Volunteer Photographer

" I have been a photographer since the eighth grade, and I also had a successful career as an orthopedic surgeon for over 40 years. There have been many honors and accolades, but for me my most complete satisfaction comes from the letters and comments from families who have been touched by my work....I want to provide families with high quality portraits as a lasting tribute to their loved one long after life's struggle is finished."

Join Les at his reception in our Art Gallery on Sunday, July 15 between 3 and 5:00 p.m. He will show work from his decade of volunteering, and is particularly proud of his We Honor Veterans images thanking veteran patients for their patriotic service. Why Don't More Doctors Order Palliative Care?

L ong before end-of-life hospice care is needed, palliative care aims to relieve the symptoms and stress of serious illness with the goal of improving quality of life, and it functions as an extra layer of support for patients and their families. A recent article in the Sacramento Bee   explains the many benefits of palliative care and seeks to explain why doctors don't order it more often - especially when it saves our healthcare system so much money.

We are fortunate in our community to have world-class palliative care offered through our Steward Center for Palliative CarePlease call 912. 354.8014 If you think this could be the kind of help you or a loved one needs. Pictured is Medical Director Dr. Laura Farless, Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
