NEWSLETTER JULY 2018
Doug Burke

ACE Tennis President
As our hectic Spring session has drawn to a close, our summer camps/programs are already in high gear.  Ace High Performance U14, U9/U11 and U7 Little Aces Camps had an exciting first week at the Cedar Springs Sportsclub, while our Competitive U14/18  along with the Recreational Mini Tennis & Smashing Ace's Camps are underway at the " hot, hot , hot "  Burlington Tennis Club.

Our competitive players have been in full flight over the last couple of months - with National Selection events taking place in May/June, and the various age group Outdoor Provincial tournaments culminating this weekend. Special congratulations to Nemanja Stefanovic (U14 Provincial Singles Champion) and Vicky Mboko (strong showings in both the U14 & U16 Outdoor Provincials); and we commend all our players that have participated and continue to give their best through the outdoor competitive season (see below).

We are very sorry to see Derek Bennett, our Fitness Director for the last five years, leave. Derek has given us great service, however we have great new coaching additions Matt Klinger and Mike Donski.
Meanwhile, registration is now open for all our  2018/19 programs (starting September). Please go to our website at  www.acetennis.ca  for all the relevant and updated information regarding our programs, registration, and new Cedar Springs Membership requirements.

HIGH
PERFORMANCE RESULTS

Nemanja Stefanovic, pictured above with his coach Victor Hoang, follows up a very impressive indoor season - which saw him reach the finals of the Under 14 indoor Provincials and finishing 6th at the Under 14 indoor Nationals - carrying that momentum to the start of the outdoor season by capturing his first career National Selection title at Rosedale in early June. With confidence on his side, Nemanja followed that up with a solid showing at the Under 16 Provincials finishing in the top 12. With the experience that he gained at the Under 16 Provincials, Nemanja closed out two tough weeks of competition by winning the singles and doubles of Under 14 Outdoor Provincial Championships at Credit Valley this past week. Nemanja has made great strides in the past year and has really matured as a person and a tennis player, quietly becoming one of the young leaders in the academy. We are very proud of his accomplishments and look forward to his continued success in the near future. Big congratulations to Nemanja, his mother Marina, Father Nesa and Brother Lazar on their victory!

Vicky Mboko pictured on the right with Sarah Liu, was the Singles Champion in the Girls U14 National Selection in June, Sarah was Singles Finalist.

Vicky Mboko also reached 3rd place in both the U16 and U14 Outdoor Provincials as well as being the Doubles Champion in the U14 at Credit Valley this past weekend where Sarah Liu got 6th place.

Vicky will be representing Canada in Germany and the Czech Republic at the World Junior Tennis U14 Team Competition Finals. Congratulations and good luck Vicky!!

Vicky is pictured here with James Boyce of the OTA at  U16 Provincials at Kew Gardens weekend before last.

The world is full of experts, everyone has an answer, but some insights are better than others. Ace coaches periodically share articles that provide insight on aspects of the game, and this in turn helps them learn, question and grow.

I decided to share one of those articles with you. If any of you come across an article you would like to share with your comments, please do so and send to   pierre@acetennis.ca

Comment:
This article on Dominic Thiem's work ethic is revealing on different levels:
  • The reality of the commitment required to become a Professional in any field.
  • The difference between wishing and being all in.
  • That all champions are a little crazy.
  • That this lifestyle is not for everyone.
  • Thiem's loyalty to Bresnick from age 9 - 23.

Dr. Anil Kaushal
" An athletes body faces different demands than the average patient. Sports injuries are unique and the rehab that follows these injuries needs to be uniquely tailored as well. We will be conducting movement screening of ACE high performance athletes in order for us to gather baseline data on how the players move. In the unfortunate event that a player is injured, we will then already have knowledge of their specific mechanics and can use that to help direct treatment more efficiently. We will also use the screen as an opportunity to note errant movement patterns, muscle compensation and general movement capacity to make possible training/fitness recommendations to the coaches."
