A Note From County Executive Meyer
Two years ago, a large concrete piece broke off lining of a nine-mile pipe that is effectively the underground I-95 of our sewer system. Earlier this week, I joined New Castle County's Regis Yurcich, Chief of Facility Maintenance, James O'Hara, Facility Maintenance Supervisor, and Anthony Schiavi, Assistant County Engineer, to walk through the pipe and view the initial stages of the repairs.

We saw significant corrosion and damage. I was amazed by the smart engineering and ingenuity of our county staff in the safe construction of three other parallel pipes to carry away your wastewater while repairs continue. This is the most significant repair to your sewer system in decades, but you will not even notice it, thanks to the smart work of our Public Works staff.

For an "inside" look at the pipe, and to see what Jamie, Regis, Anthony and team are up against, click HERE .

I also was humbled to received, on behalf of our county, an extraordinarily kind community gift from Peggy Campbell Alderson, in memory of her late father, the extraordinary Dr. Jason Campbell. Peggy donated the funding so that the Rockwood Park Preservation Society could build the  Dr. Campbell Apothecary Garden at Rockwood . Stop by today and wander through the native plant gardens and artistic fountain, sitting just beside the beautiful mansion.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yours in service,
Matthew Meyer
