Trenton Music Makers Prepare
to Host a Seminario!

300 players from NYC's Harmony Program, Long Island's Ascente Chamber Orchestra, Play on, Philly! and our musical cousins from the El Sistema NJ Alliance, will spend the day together with us, and we'll meet Gustavo Dudamel for the last time this year, at Princeton University.

Our thanks to Princeton University Concerts, for welcoming us as partners in this year's  residency of Gustavo Dudamel, in celebration of their 125th Anniversary!

Seminarios are an integral part of El Sistema in Venezuela, and throughout the world, Sistema-inspired programs combine forces to present festivals like this one, learning in small groups, and playing as a massive orchestra. The closing concert of the El Sistema Festival will take place as part of Princeton's Communiversity ArtsFest, on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00pm in Richardson Auditorium. The concert will be open to the general public, but with an orchestra of 300 we'll take up a good part of the orchestra seating, and balcony seating will be severely limited. Seats available on a first-come-first-served basis -- hope to see you there!

This month, in the Music for the Very Young program:

Miss Jody Introduces the String Family

Playing music with the wonderful preschoolers at Children First Academy is always one of the highlights of our week. But this month a special treat, in this and each of our 42 Music for the Very Young partner classrooms: an introduction to the string family. Our Orchestra Teaching Artist Jody Rajesh shares her violin, viola, cello, and pictures of the double-bass that would have had trouble fitting through the door..... and each of the children, and their teachers, get to try their hand at playing.

Tap the photo above to enjoy our photo album, from one really, really lovely morning.
Venezuelan Master Teacher
Roberto Zambrano
Visits Trenton Music Makers Orchestra

"You young people have met Gustavo Dudamel? I'm so glad to know it! I was his teacher."

Our program leaders were fortunate enough to meet Mo. Zambrano at this year's National Symposium of El Sistema USA, and we were delighted that he accepted our invitation to visit us, and our El Sistema NJ Alliance program cousins in Union City, Newark, Orange and Paterson, in March. He challenged us to play with diligence and ferocity -- why not dedicate every fiber of your being to this music while you play? And why shouldn't a crescendo blow everyone's hair back?

Thank you Maestro -- we can't wait until you join us again.

Three more performances and a field trip, and it will be time for Summer Session!

At this point in the spring we get to contemplate the joys and challenges of the program year and make plans for the year ahead, and always with tremendous gratitude to our friends who make it possible. Will you consider joining the team?
