Changes to the Pacifica Synod e-News 
We are pleased to share with you the following news, information and ministry opportunities taking place within our synod and throughout the ELCA. Beginning April 1, 2019 - our e-newsletter will be distributed semi-monthly in two separate issues. One issue will include Pacifica Synod and ELCA news items, along with prayer requests. The second issue will include ministry celebrations, events and opportunities, and positions within our synod and beyond.

You're Invited - Installation Services Across Our Synod
The Rev. Anne-Grethe Nielsen - Sunday, May 19
All are invited to celebrate the Installation of the Rev. Anne-Grethe Nielsen as pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda on Sunday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. The church address is  16881 Bastanchury Road, Yorba Linda.  Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day as white.

All are invited to a meet and greet reception on the patio immediately following the service. Following that, there will be an After Reception, including a Danish Dinner and an evening with Danish songs. The donation for 3-course meal is $25. If you wish to attend the meal, please RSVP at [email protected] by May 15.

Pastor Anne-Grethe has served the Danish Lutheran Church for a number of years while ordained with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark. She recently was approved to transfer to the ELCA roster.


The Rev. Wesley Menke - Sunday, May 26
All are invited to celebrate the Installation of the Rev. Wesley Menke as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Upland on Sunday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m. The church address is 2108 N. Euclid Avenue, Upland. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day as white. All are invited to a reception immediately following the service.

Pastor Wesley began his call with Grace in March 2019. Rev. Wesley's first call was to a bilingual church in Santa Ana, California: Iglesia Luterana San Pedro. He received an advanced certificate in Lutheran Theology from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California. Rev. Wesley graduated from Claremont School of Theology in May 2013 with a dual Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theology.

Pastor Wesley served as Director of Youth and Family Ministry and Spanish Teacher for seven years at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and School in San Clemente, California. Pastor Wesley's passion for youth ministry began as a camp counselor at El Camino Pines where he also met his wife, Sheri. Together they have five children: Rebecca, Charles, Alan, Paxton, and Sophie Grace. 


The Rev. Paul Hegele - Sunday, June 16
All are invited to celebrate the installation of the Rev. Paul Hegele as pastor of Newport Harbor Lutheran Church in Newport Beach on Sunday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. The church address is 798 Dover Drive, Newport Beach. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day as white.

Pastor Paul began his call with Newport Harbor in January of this year. He has been a pastor for 43 years serving parishes in Toledo, Ohio and Louisville, KY.  He also chaired the Communications Committee of the NW Ohio Synod for 12 years. His professional degrees are from Harvard Divinity, the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.

His wife, Julie, is a retired commercial interior designer. Their daughter, Christyn, is an ELCA pastor in Kansas City and son, Andrew, is a Disney movie editor in Burbank.
Events & Opportunities
Wartburg College Choir Concert - Saturday, April 20
The internationally acclaimed Wartburg College Choir will be performing at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Dana Point on Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 pm.

The Wartburg College Choir has performed throughout the United States and in 21 countries. They have been invited to perform at the White House, the Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center among others. The 80+ member choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles and often features premiere works of contemporary composers. It's going to be an amazing evening of music.

Lutheran Lobby Day - May 29, 2019

From the Lutheran Office of Public Policy - California Council:

Our   LOPP-CA Policy Council, in consultation with our new director Regina   Banks, decided upon our policy priorities at our recent board meeting.  We will concentrate on   Deep Childhood Poverty, Immigration and Migration, and the Environment - particularly water justice.  Please look for our updates and directions on how you and your congregation can get involved on these issues at our website http://lutheranpublicpolicyca.org  or any of our social media pages.  
 
To support this ministry, we are also pleased to invite your whole congregation to our first   Lutheran   Lobby Day at the Capital   on   Wednesday, May 29, 2019 .   Details about Lobby Day   will be posted soon   but we'd ask for your prayers and support in this new endeavor. Please use your voice of leadership to amplify ours and recommit your congregation to the work of public policy and advocacy.
