Williston Herald - There were smiles and cookies and a full house at Williston's brand new VA clinic, which opened its doors Monday afternoon for a soft opening and some tours of the new digs. Wiedrich took groups of 10 veterans at a time to see the new space, passing by a new blood drawing room, the tele-retinal and tele-health rooms, as well as four new patient exam rooms, and a fifth room dedicated to women's health. Energy Industry reignites North Dakota's Economy
In June, the Legacy Fund, derived from 30 percent of oil and gas tax revenue, received a $58.8 million deposit - its largest since February 2015.
Bismarck Tribune - As North Dakota's various state revenues continue to meet or exceed forecast figures, those close to the numbers say there's reason to smile, but emphasized reality. State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt said June 28 that General Fund revenues from biennium-to-date are 2.1 percent higher than projected, but the forecast from last year was a conservative one. One big positive is surging oil and gas extraction tax revenue - 72 percent over what was forecast for June, according to a report from Legislative Council.  Read More
FSA Youth Loans benefit Young Entrepreneurs
Parker Strand, 11, of Portland, N.D., borrowed $5,000 under a Farm Service Agency youth loan program to buy five cows. Three have had calves so far and she hopes to pay off the loan with profit over its seven-year period. She'll be 18. Mikkel Pates / Forum News Service
Forum News Service - Meet Parker Strand - cattle woman. At age 11, young Strand borrowed the maximum of $5,000 last December in a Farm Service Agency Youth Loan program and bought five bred cows. She put her animals with her father's cow-calf operation north of Portland and now she's in business for herself. "We bred them and three of them had babies and two of them haven't had theirs yet," Parker says. She says she hopes to pay off the loan in the seven-year period, and perhaps make some profit. Like grown-up cattle raisers, it's not easy to figure out how much, but she'll know more later.  Read More

Travel Journalist discovers Beauty, History at Western North Dakota's TRNP
AP - For travelers looking to visit all 50 states, North Dakota is often one of the last to be checked off. It's not exactly on the way to anywhere else, and flying there is expensive. It ended up being 49th on my 50-state quest (sorry, Idaho!)... Theodore Roosevelt National Park ranks among the most interesting and beautiful I've seen. I wish I hadn't waited so long to visit, and I hope someday to go back and absorb more of the place that Roosevelt called "a land of vast silent spaces - a place of grim beauty." Read More
