News for Living, Working and Playing in Deerfield Township

As part of our process to create a master plan for the township's parks, we recently launched a new website - PlanDeerfieldParks.com - to keep residents, businesses and other stakeholders updated about this important project. On the website, you'll find general information, feedback we receive from the community and opportunities to participate.

For example, we recently posted notes from our June focus groups that were held with local residents. You'll also find dates for the entire schedule of community visioning workshops this fall, as well as a comment form so that you can submit your ideas, thoughts or questions to the project team.

The Parks Master Plan will guide policy development, prioritize opportunities and help us create recreational programming that meets the needs of our entire community for years to come. We hope you'll stay involved and visit our website often for updates.

Our summer Performing Arts Series, in partnership with the Arts Alliance, continues Friday, July 6, with a concert by the Boogie Band of the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. This free event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Cottell Park.

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra (KSO) has been making classical music fun, engaging and accessible for local audiences in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati since 1992. Each program provides a mix of familiar and less well-known repertoire, performed in a creative and energetic atmosphere.

Guests are invited to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to the park. For more details, visit our website

Warren County Commissioners Plan Community Forum on Addiction

The Warren County Commissioners invite you to participate in an important community meeting to learn about ways to address the opioid crisis in our county. The forum will take place on Tuesday, July 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Warren County Career Center in Lebanon.

The commissioners will present details from a recent study conducted by the Addiction Policy Forum and outline the organization's recommendations for implementing a comprehensive blueprint for the county's opioid response.

An increase in the number of pain medicine prescriptions and rising access to heroin caused growing opioid abuse over the past several decades. According to a report by the county's Opioid Reduction Task Force, from 1991 to 2011 opioid prescriptions in the U.S. rose from 76 million to 219 million. In Warren County, there were more than 10.6 million annualized opioid prescriptions written in 2015, the equivalent of 48 doses per person. Additionally, the number of overdose deaths in the county rose 264 percent from 2004 to 2014.

The Addiction Policy Forum is a partnership of organizations, policymakers and stakeholders working to increase awareness about addiction and encourage a holistic response that includes prevention, treatment, recovery and criminal justice reform.

To RSVP for the meeting, email commissioners@co.warren.oh.us. You can also learn more about the Addiction Policy Forum's recommendations for Warren County online
