March Newsletter
April 4th, 2019 will mark Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North’s 15th anniversary of serving families on the North Island. From the founders to our current board of directors, we have been lead by many inspirational leaders along the way.

Over the past 15 years Habitat VIN has undergone enormous changes, going from a small grassroots charity to an organization with the capacity to handle two large multi-phased construction projects between two communities. Three years ago we were serving an average of 1.5 families per year. This year we will partner with a total of eight families.

2019 is off to a resounding start with shovels in the ground continuing our projects on 477 Hilchey Road in Campbell River and 1330 Lake Trail Road in Courtenay. Logan, Ryan, and Brian continue to create a strong culture of safety as we build into 2019 and 2020. Thank you to our board, staff, and volunteers who are all working together to deliver on our promises to our families and the community.

I wanted to also take some time to thank Terri Perrin, our former Community Engagement Manager who has moved on to new opportunities. Terri assisted in growing the capacity of our policies, volunteer excellence, and processes. She was instrumental in continuing to build, engage and retain our tremendous volunteer base. Terri, you will be missed by the whole Habitat team and we wish you continued success in building community.

Site Host
Did you know you can help Habitat build homes without lifting a hammer? Site hosts are the official ‘greeters’ on our construction sites. They start their day by getting the coffee pot perking, and then help check people in, assign safety gear, answer questions, set-up snacks for the morning coffee break, and get lunch ready.

This opportunity is great for people who like to work inside and/or have restrictions on their ability to do manual labour. Those who like making muffins and other sweet treats are especially welcome!
