Introducing the Synod's Preaching Stewardship Ministry
One of our greatest resources is each other. When we pool our gifts, the Church benefits greatly. We are excited to introduce the Pacifica Synod's new Preaching Stewardship Ministry. The purpose of this ministry i s to share the greater gifts of stewardship proclamation with each other. This is just one component of an overall stewardship emphasis that we encourage congregations to conduct at least annually. Stewardship is more than a program. Biblical stewardship is a lifestyle. We are stewards of God's gifts daily and are called to equip our congregations to be faithful stewards of all God has entrusted to them.

"How to Create a Safety Plan for Your Church" Workshop
Saturday, September 15
The Christian Education Network of the ELCA presents "How to Create a Safety Plan for Your Church" on Saturday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pacifica Synod office in Santa Ana.

We are dedicated to lifelong faith formation in the home and congregation. Our goal is to help churches create a customized plan to meet a congregation's safety needs in a building, with people, who are worshiping, learning, and serving.

Our whole church approach is for anyone seeking to intentionally create a peaceful environment for people of all ages. Attend a four-hour workshop and walk away with a customized guide and training method useful in addressing all your unique building, people, and activity concerns.

For more information, and to register for this $25 workshop, go to www.faithfulteaching.org and download the 'Table of Contents' for the generic safety template. This document will give you the full scope and sequence of a customized safety guide.

Your $25 registration fee includes a generic Safety Template and Training Manual.
Refreshments will be provided. Please bring a sack lunch and a laptop or tablet with a USB port (iPads do not have USB ports). Participants download the generic template from a secure thumb drive (yours to keep) and begin to customize it during the workshop. The training manual is provided in a binder, and also as an electronic file on the thumb drive.

Rest Assured! This approach does not replace all the hard work currently being done in your church. It incorporates your existing programs and best practices in a way the entire congregation can support. Increased awareness and support will lead to greater cooperation, reduced anxiety, and increased confidence.
We hope to see you at workshop soon!

ELCA Advocacy Update - June 2018

Celebrating Ministry Together!
Sharing Your Congregation's Youth Gathering Experience

The 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston has come to a close after 5 days of amazing speakers, worship, activities, service opportunities and chances for the youth and adults in our synod to experience our larger church. We give thanks for the ELCA staff, volunteers, youth leaders, pastors and adult leaders who made this all possible. Videos of the Bible studies, evening mass gatherings and worship may be found at www.elca.org/YouthGathering.

We'd like to share your experience with others. If you are a leader who brought a group to the Gathering in Houston and would like to share 4-5 of your favorite photos of your group, we'd like to use them in a special post-Assembly Gathering recap to be shared through our synod e-news. Please email photos to [email protected] by July 10. Be sure that you have parent's permission to share photos of your youth.

Global Mission Update - Pastor Hitoshi & Satoko Adachi
As Pastor Hitoshi Adachi and his wife, Satoko, begin their calls as missionaries with the Japan Evangelicial Lutheran Church in Kumamoto, Japan, we are pleased to share their first official newsletter here.

From the synod office, some additional information: The ELCA is sending a little over 200 missionaries to over 40 countries to serve as pastors, teachers, advisers and doctors. It costs an average of $80,000 annually to support an ELCA missionary household. Each missionary is expected to raise $20,000 per year towards these costs. We encourage you to consider becoming a longer-term sponsoring congregation/individual to support Pastor Hitoshi and Satoko in their ministries, which will continue for the next four to eight years. As it is written in attached profile, if you wish to support the Adachi's with an automatic monthly bank withdrawal or to establish a covenant of prayer, communication and support, please contact 800.638.3522, ext. 2657, or at [email protected].

Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network Opportunities
LE VN, the  Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network, is looking for young  adults (age 21-30) with Bachelor's degrees for an 11-month program of non-profit volunteer service and learning about social justice. From the end of August 2018 to the end of July 2019, our corps members will be provided housing, utilities, health coverage, transportation, spiritual direction, and a $400/month food stipend. We    also offer a $1000 re-entry grant at the completion of the program.

The placement sites for the upcoming program year include faith-based non-profits, secular non-profits, congregations, the Sierra Pacific Synod office, and our campus ministry at UC Davis. These service sites address issues of homelessness, unemployment, children and youth ministries, computer literacy, and other important social justice issues facing our communities.

We gather each week for worship, dinner, and formation. The corps members live in intentional community in a triplex in Sacramento, CA. We're an ecumenical program in the Episcopal Service Corps network; applicants needn't be either Lutheran or Episcopal to apply-interest in Christian spirituality is the only expectation. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the program begins.

Visit levn.org or contact Program Director Casey Dunsworth at 530.756.1550 or [email protected] for more information!
