Parking Rules Make Superior Streets Safer

Preserving the quality of life in Superior’s neighborhoods requires effort from us all. Toward this end, the Town Board approved a new parking ordinance to address a growing community concern – the obstruction of residential streets due to trailers parked for several days. This ordinance is intended to enhance safety in our roadways. The rules now prohibit semi-trailers from parking along public streets or right of way adjacent to a residential lot. It also reduces the time any other trailer or recreational vehicle is allowed to be parked on a public street from five days to 48 hours.

Historical Commission Corner
The Fourth of July, Independence Day, was a welcome rare holiday for coal miners in Superior’s Industrial Mine. It wasn’t until into the 1930’s that the work day was cut to 5 or 6 days a week, so it was rare to for them have a day off. One story from the Town’s old timers tells about one Fourth a group of miners packed a scrap piece of pipe with some explosives “borrowed” from the mine’s powder shack. The loaded pipe was placed far to the west side of the mine camp and a very long fuse attached. The residents collected a safe distance from the “firecracker” and the fuse was lit. The resulting explosion was greater than expected, surprising the revelers and rocking the landscape around the mine and mine camp. The residents of Superior indeed started the holiday with a bang!

Commission members and friends will be at their booth on the Fourth during the event in Community Park. Drop by and visit with us about our Town’s past. Also, the plan is for the vintage fire truck to be in the parade again this year then on display at the park afterward.

The Superior Historical Museum will be open on July 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, contact Bryan Meyer, Town Staff, at 303-499-3675 or Larry Dorsey, Commission Chair, at 303-499-1969.

Campfire Safety

This 4th of July the Town of Superior is again hosting a great family event starting with a fun run and parade. After you’ve worked up an appetite come eat pancakes at community park and share in the fun with your community. Please go see a public fireworks display and leave the show to the professionals it will eliminate the danger fireworks can present to you, your neighbors and pets.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

For those with a longer commute, there is a great solution for you! With Bike-n-Ride shelters popping up around the northwest metro area, you can ride the first or final mile and safely store your bike at a Bike-n-Ride shelter while you complete the rest of your commute by transit.

Bike-n-Ride shelters require pre-approved access cards so that users can be guaranteed their bike will be safe while it’s being store.

The shelters are also weather proof, which means your bike will be protected from rain, snow or whatever weather may come.

Superior is home to a Bike-n-Ride shelter located at US 36 and McCaslin. Apply to receive a RFID card for the shelter today. This shelter connects to the US 36 Bikeway, which connects Boulder to Westminster with an 18-mile paved path.
