Going Forward

As we settle into our new space at the Baltimore City Small Business Resource Center I have been contemplating the start of a new grant year with the Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency. Over the last two years we have worked with entrepreneurs developing and selling products in numerous industries from hair care to 3D printing to augmented reality. We have seen the value of shared experiences and cooperative work efforts through cooperative maker space like
Open Works
in Baltimore which serves as a launch pad for small and early stage manufacturers providing access to manufacturing tools and technical training. This past week I visited my MBDA colleagues in Philadelphia and toured the
Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises
which supports both established and start-up food businesses and food processors in need of commercial kitchen space and technical assistance. Closer to home we are supporting the development of the
EMAGE Center
in West Baltimore as an inner minority owned manufacturing hub.
As I study the model for sustainability and growth of minority business in the manufacturing industry the need for cooperation and collaboration is evident. As we envision our next year as a resource to the minority business community we will serve as the nexus for the growth of these collaborative efforts. Stay Tuned.
