School District of Palm Beach County Earns an A; Rated Highest Among Other Large Urban Districts

The School District of Palm Beach County is an A-rated district, and has the highest number of District-operated "A" schools when compared with other large urban school districts.

According to preliminary school grades released last week by the Florida Department of Education, the District ranks highest in Florida on total number of points earned when compared with other large urban districts. The District also was highest among its peer districts in math achievement, science achievement, math learning gains for all students, and high school graduation rate.

Overall, 71 District-operated schools earned A's from the state, and 36 District-operated schools earned B's. Sixty-five percent of all District-operated schools can boast A and B ratings, a 4 percentage point increase from the 2016-2017 school year. Read more...

Applications Being Accepted for Five School District Magnet Programs

Registration is still open to attend one of five School District of Palm Beach County schools with special programs funded by a three-year, $11.6 million Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The five magnet schools include two International Baccalaureate (I.B.) elementary schools, one I.B. middle school, one established I.B. middle school with STEM infusion, and one STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) middle school.

The five schools and grant-funded programs are:
  • Carver Middle School, Delray Beach: IB Middle Years Programme with STEM infusion
  • Congress Middle School, Boynton Beach: STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)
  • Grove Park Elementary School, Palm Beach Gardens: IB Primary Years Programme with STEM infusion
  • H.L. Watkins Middle School, Palm Beach Gardens: IB Middle Years Programme with STEM infusion
  • Palmetto Elementary School, West Palm Beach: IB Primary Years Programme with STEM infusion

WPTV: Penny Sales Tax Funding $70 Million Makeover at Palm Beach County Schools
WPTVWhile Palm Beach County schools are closed for the summer, several are getting a $70 million makeover. 

It's all being funded through the penny sales tax, which was approved by voters and went into effect in January 2017. It's a 10-year plan that's expected to generate $2.7 billion for the school district, county, and city.  Watch the video...

School's out for the summer, but students are still hungry, and the School District's School Food Service Department is offering free meals for all children in Palm Beach County.

Schools will be serving free, nutritionally-balanced breakfasts and lunches to children through the age of 18 at school locations across the county.

Plus, in order to keep bellies full and learning continuing through the summer, several Palm Beach County Library locations will be serving free lunches and snacks daily as well. Learn more...




Research has shown that summer learning helps students succeed academically. By continuing to read, learn and have experiences outside of the classroom, such as visiting science centers, museums and exploring the outdoors, students will reduce summer learning loss and be better prepared when they return to school in the fall.
