2019 Marks East Central Regional Library's 60th Anniversary

East Central Regional Library began in 1959 with three counties - Isanti, Mille Lacs and Pine and just five branch libraries. This was a milestone in the history of Minnesota library development. For the first time in Minnesota's history, a regional association of rural counties was organized with the purpose of cooperatively providing library service to all residents within its boundaries.

East Central Regional Library has grown substantially since then, adding three more counties; Aitkin in 1964, Kanabec in 1967 and Chisago in 1970 and expanding to today's fourteen branch libraries and outreach service. Today, East Central Regional Library has the distinction of being the oldest regional library system in the state.
