GEPL Reads for SCARCE
May 29 through September 2
For the past five years, the Glen Ellyn Public Library has tied the Summer Reading program to a philanthropic cause -- embracing the volunteer spirit of the community -- and challenging members to not just read, but to read for a benevolent purpose.

And this summer is no different, as the library partners with SCARCE, an award-winning nonprofit that provides environmental education through hands-on programs to schools, organizations, and the community.  This year, the library challenges kids to read for 70,000 hours and adults to read 4,000 books. Help make a difference in your community.

I WAS ANASTASIA BOOK REVIEW  BY BRENNA MURPHY

I'm a huge fan of historical fiction, especially when there is a mystery involved. I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon had me hooked from page one. When a freezing woman is pulled from a canal in Berlin claiming to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov, many doubt her story. Alternating between Anastasia's youth and Anna's adulthood fight to be officially recognized as Anastasia, a treacherous and intriguing story unravels. Is Anna truly Anastasia? Can she trust those claiming to help her? Readers who enjoy dramatic, compelling historical fiction will want to read this and find out. You can also join me for a discussion of I Was Anastasia this Thursday, July 12 from 7-8 pm.
