Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update 7/02/18
Crews are working to install asphalt transitions that will enable eastbound Brown at the Old Woodward intersection to reopen to through traffic. It is anticipated eastbound Brown will reopen tomorrow morning ( Tuesday, July 3rd ).
This week crews will continue their work on the construction of the ornate planter boxes. The sophisticated planter will hold the new trees which will be enriched by the organic, structural soil underground, allowing for faster growth of the new trees. The planter boxes are one of many above ground enhancements that will transform the look of downtown Birmingham for decades to come.
Safety Reminder! Even though the project is progressing toward completion, please remember it remains an active construction zone. Please exercise caution while walking in or near the construction zone, and do not move or remove construction barriers to enhance your own mobility.
With a targeted completion date of  early August , the underground infrastructure improvements and the above ground enhancements on Old Woodward will result in a modernized downtown core that City residents, merchants, stakeholders and visitors will be proud of and enjoy for decades to come. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit downtown and see the transformation first-hand while supporting city merchants. As a reminder, free parking in all City parking structures is now available on weekends  (Saturday and   Sunday)  along with four, two-hour free valet parking stands strategically located near the construction zone.
