Summer is in full swing and things are getting HOT in studio, in more ways than one! With temperatures and class sizes rising it's important to take care of yourself. Make sure you're well hydrated before class, and drink plenty of water after class. Don't forget you can always take child's pose, get a drink or even step out if you feel over heated. Did you know there's even a pranayama practice you can do to cool the body and mind? Yep, it's called Sitali:

How To Practice Sitali
  • Sit in a comfortable position with the head, neck, and spine in alignment.
  • Close your eyes, breathe diaphragmatically for several minutes, then open the mouth and form the lips into an “O.”
  • Curl the tongue lengthwise and project it out of the mouth (about 3/4 of an inch).
  • Inhale deeply across the tongue and into the mouth as if drinking through a straw.
  • Focus your attention on the cooling sensation of the breath as the abdomen and lower ribs expand.
  • Withdraw the tongue and close the mouth, exhaling completely through the nostrils.
Continue doing sitali for 2 to 3 minutes, return to diaphragmatic breathing for several more, and repeat the cooling breath for 2 to 3 minutes longer. Gradually you can work your way up to a 10-minute practice.

Detox: Cell to Soul w/Kelsey & Sara
August 5th 5-7:30pm @Rising Fawn Gardens
Cost-$35 class only/$50 includes dinner from Southern Squeeze

It is time, once and for all, to get over what the ”beast/wolf/ non desirable/ less preferred/ ego” in you wants to consume. To get over your lower impulses. To rise above what is keeping you down. Holding you back. It is time to find a different way.

Life is by definition regenerative. Life on it’s own given the right conditions is radiance, strength, purity, clarity, creativity, effortlessness, and endless beauty.

During this work shop we will give foundational tools to become the director of your life. To rid yourself of accumulation of all things excess: diet, material, relationships, emotions and more.

We will work on deep tissue cleansing from every cell to your soul. How to break it up, how to eliminate it.

This class will have a 30 minute Dharma talk followed by a class co-taught by Kelsey Vasileff and Sara Mingus. Class will end with a sweet, long savasana. This class is open to ALL levels, but some yoga experience is helpful.

The work begins within..
Come take part in this journey with us.

Join Giocanda for a weekend to grow your lifetime practice.

Resiliency is our ability to bounce back, to maintain health and vitality in the face of challenges. With it, we can grow and thrive--whatever comes our way. The workshops offered in this weekend are aimed at helping you build a longterm yoga practice. You’ll learn alignment and movement principles to optimize your efforts on the mat. We’ll tune into what the poses do for us physically and also how the different categories of poses effect our moods and mental clarity. You’ll leave with renewed curiosity and a deeper awareness of yourself, along with strength and stability both on and off the mat.

Plus, check out Gia while she's in Chattanooga subbing classes over the next couple of weeks! See Gia's schedule here!

Four two hour practices that combine anatomy and specific alignment work which we then migrate into a flow practice to help students learn foundations and make progress.

OPEN AND LENGTHEN w/Shayna
Hot 26 poses

Dandayamana Dhanurasana - Standing Bow pulling pose
Similar to Dancer’s Pose, Standing Bow’s main difference is that the shoulders come into a straight line like pulling a bow. Allow the back shoulder to open back, as the front shoulder reaches forward and up to come in line with the chin. Lift through the chest, kick back and up, and then begin to square the hips. Standing leg is strong and straight, thigh engaged.

Trikonasana - Triangle
Unlike most variations of triangle, the front knee is bent at a 90 degree angle and the bottom arm lines up elbow to knee, not hand to floor, in the Hot26 variation. Aim for a straight line from the heel to the crown of the head and from fingertip to fingertip.

Ustrasana - Camel
Allow the head to go back first. Push the hips and stomach forward and lift through the center of the chest. To go deeper, reach one hand at a time backwards for your heels. Get a strong grip, and continue to push the stomach and hips forward. The more you lift through the center of the chest, the less you will collapse into the lower back.
