July 2018 Newsletter
Our Summer Food Drive 2018 kicks off this week! Every summer, the Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry sees a 40% increase in hungry families , mostly due to the absence of free/reduced priced school meals that children usually receive during the school year. Help us fill this gap for families in need and collect our goal of 10,000 lbs. of food! We can't do it without you!
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Take a donation shopping list with you on your next grocery run.
Host an office, business, or group food drive. Plus, there’s a prize! The group that collects the most pounds of food by July 31st wins a free breakfast  (up to 20 people).

The Power of Giving: Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry
When her daughter's father was deported, April found herself displaced. He had been the bread winner for the family and she didn't know how she was going to support her daughter on her own. Luckily, she found strangers who were kind enough to open their home to her while she got back on her feet, but still, she was under tremendous stress. She was a single mother struggling to keep her baby housed and fed.

One night, all of this stress caught up to her. While she was preparing a meal, she accidentally cut her hand. She went to the hospital to get treated and spoke with a social worker about her overall current living situation and the struggles she was going through to make ends meet. They encouraged her to call JFS Orlando. At JFS, not only did she get support for the long-run, but she was able to get immediate help to get through today's problems.
“I was given a beautiful cart of groceries! Four bags full. I nearly cried. The staff here have become like a second family for us. Because of JFS, today my baby and I have our own apartment, food and light. We are better today because of the charity of individual people and corporations who support Jewish Family Services. Thank you.
-April, Pantry client
Our Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry helps alleviate hunger and reduce food insecurity in Central Florida. As one of only a few "healthy eating" pantries in Orlando, we provide a wide variety of food staples, including meat and fresh produce, to feed hungry families.
...and we couldn't have done it without you! Donations from the community make up 60% of the food in our pantry. Help us fight hunger by donating non-perishable food items or making a direct online monetary donation today!
