"Susie Burns helped me sell my parent's house and managed most of the process for me since I was unable to remain local during the sale. She far exceeded any and all expectations I had and to say she gave 110% is a major understatement. She was always available to talk or discuss issues that arose and provided solutions and guidance to ensure we expedited the sale and maximized our return on investment. Susie is a true Realtor Rock-star! She has my highest commendation and gratitude!"

Unfortunately, in todays world, we have to be on alert for scams and people who want to take advantage of us.  They come from every direction, from computer hackers to movers.  As long as we do our homework, ask good questions and read reviews or get references, we can hopefully take care of our assets.  That's why we wanted to pass this month's articles on to you.  If we can help just one person, it is worth it!

Hope you have a Happy Independence Day!

Sincerely,

Susie and Nichola

Secure Access for First Responders, LLC

I got an email from SAFFR this week and wanted to pass along the great information they shared.  Please read below.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has a long history of protecting people from scams.  As part of it's ongoing efforts to protect people in every community, the FTC recently took steps to stop two schemes:  a tech support scam and a sweepstakes scam.

The latest Tech Support Scam:  Scammers pretend to be calling from the technical support department of a well-know company.  Others send pop-up messages, warning you about a problem with your computer.  They want you to believe your computer is infected with a virus, or that a hacker is trying to access your computer.  It's all a ploy to get you to pay for bogus technical support you don't need.

The Sweepstakes Scam:  They send mailers that make people think they've won a $1 million prize (or more!) and that the recipient only needs to pay a small fee to clam it.

A very current scam that is coming to email addresses today is one stating it is from the IRS.  It will probably say something about your "account".  DO NOT OPEN!  Instead delete and then permanently delete it from your email.

Another current scam is when you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft affiliated tech support, telling you your computer has a virus.  Hang up!  This one will try to get you to give them access to your computer so they can infect it with a virus and then charge you a large fee to fix it.

If you think you see a scam, tell people and report your story to the FTC.  Your story could save someone else from a bad experience.

Ask these questions before you hire a moving company.

  1. Do you have any references?  No matter what job you're hiring someone for, references are important to make you have trust and comfort in their ability to perform the task efficiently.
  2. What specific services do you offer?  Moving companies vary in terms of what they're willing to do for you.  Some might refuse to move large items, etc., so make sure you know exactly what you need moved before you call.
  3. Do you offer in-home estimates?  Knowing what needs to be moved is one thing, but understanding the cost of labor to get the job done is another.  Getting an estimate is a great way to compare companies and safeguard against price-gouging.  Also, if you get everything in writing, and secure departure and arrival dates, you can avoid any potential hiccups.
  4. Will you draw up an inventory of my items?  Finding a company that will create a detailed and organized list of your stuff will ensure that it all arrives safely and securely, and that nothing is lost in the process.  It can also save you the time, energy and stress of doing it yourself.
  5. What happens if something is damaged?  Most offer optional coverage packages to replace or repair items that are lost or damaged.  It may be more expensive, but it's a smart move in the long run.  It will give you some peace of mind.

Medical Flags: To save property owners money, Medical Flags will no longer be needed. After discussions with members, Director of Agronomy Gary Myers, the Golf Committee and the Golf Department, we will give golfers more opportunities to ride on the golf courses, weather permitting. The discontinuation of the Medical Flag program is not the removal of a benefit, but rather represents a choice not to charge anyone for a flag that does not provide an added value as a return on the expense.
