NJ Passes Commuter Benefit Law
On March 1, 2019, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law a new commuter benefit ordinance. This new ordinance would require employers with more than 20 employees to offer commuter benefits. We've created a quick synopsis below. To read the full NJ Commuter Ordinance, please click here.

Affordability Concerns Lead Consumers to Short-Term Health Plans
Instead of using short-term plans to bridge gaps in more comprehensive coverage, consumers are viewing short-term insurance as a cheaper alternative to traditional plans, despite being aware that these options do not offer the same benefits as ACA-compliant products.  Read more here .
Researcher finds female business leaders cultivate diversity better than men
When it comes to increasing organizational diversity, female executives are much more effective than their male counterparts, according to Anuja Gupta, an assistant professor of management at Rutgers University-Camden

Gupta recently published an article, "Women Leaders and Organizational Diversity: Their Critical Role in Promoting Diversity in Organizations," in the international journal Development and Learning in Organizations. It cites a major study of leadership competencies in 7,000 executives which showed that women scored better than men in 12 of 16 competencies measured in the evaluation. Read  more .

Proposed Changes to Layoff Notices Law Will Drive Away Businesses
The New Jersey Business & Industry Association said a plan to change the state's tough WARN Notice Law to require that employers provide 90 days' notice, plus severance pay, whenever they lay off 50 or more workers, will deter companies from locating or expanding in New Jersey.

Under this legislation, the 2007 WARN Notice Law would be changed to require 90 days' notice, instead of the current 60 days, and for the first time require affected employers who have followed the notification rules to provide severance pay as well. Read  more .

Bipartisan bill suggests another health insurance tax delay

Senators from both sides of the aisle have sponsored a bill that would delay implementation of the ACA's health insurance tax (HIT) once again, this time for two years. The $16 billion tax, designed to be levied on payers, would ultimately increase premiums and further jeopardize the affordability of healthcare. Click here to learn more.
