Now that the month of May and warmer weather is upon us, we wanted to describe our perfect spring days!

Barb -  I had my perfect spring day this year. I got to work with pigs, horses and dogs at Best Friends in Utah!! It was a bit chilly but gorgeous. A nice glass of wine and hot shower after work topped off the day!

Timmy -  Warm & sunny with a tailgate and a lacrosse game!

Lisa - My perfect spring day would consist of beautiful weather and plenty of time to spend working on my garden. The past three years I have also done a fairy garden, which lets me be a little creative in addition to just potting pretty plants.

Dana -  My perfect spring day is a bbq outside with my family and friends.

Karen B - On a spring day I enjoy hiking the Oregon Ridge trails in Hunt Valley with my family and the dogs! I also like going to garden centers to get spring flowers, herbs and veggies (but only on a weekday - too crowded on the weekend!)

Karen E - My favorite spring day is to play a great doubles tennis match in the morning followed by lunch outside with my girlfriends and then a St. Paul's lacrosse game in the afternoon. To end the day, dinner with my family outside on our deck followed by a good book on the couch with a glass of rose. Bliss!

Sarah - I love to hike the trails at Oregon Ridge Park! The trails are peaceful and beautiful and some trails even wind down through streams and waterfalls. I have a Golden Retriever who loves to get outside and walk

Brittany - Running on the NCR trail. Ice cream. Zumba. Reading on a hammock. Taking my bulldog on a short, but spirited walk. Grilling pineapple. Tacos. Swimming. Happy hour. Privateer's Day. Traveling. Live music. Stargazing. This is Sophie on our way to a walk!

May 2018

From the Desk of Barb Clapp...
I just got back from my second mission trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. It is a very spiritual place with infinite Native American history and influence. This year, I was given more responsibility than last time since I understood what their expectations were. I worked with pigs, dogs and horses five days sun up to sun down and loved every minute!
I was assigned to Admissions for dogs and they are really traumatized when they first arrive and need human support. Four of the dogs I interacted with had owners who had died. I absolutely fell in love with the pigs that I worked with. I walked them every day and engaged them in enrichment activities. We spent a lot of time grooming, feeding and mucking horses in the canyons. Another meaningful thing happened when one of the Sanctuary founders invited me to lunch because she knows I'm an active animal advocate in my community and filled me in on their initiative to have all no-kill shelters in our country by 2025. I am hopeful that I can be a supporter of this initiative. I hosted a HSUS state meeting at my office on Saturday and we are committing to this idea.

It's hard to express the sense of peace and fulfillment you get from being at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Next year I will definitely be going back. Everyone should try a mission trip somewhere and follow their serendipity - it's an amazing thing to do for your soul.
