Neighbor Tells Grandma of Roxbury Kid With Cancer to Clean Her Yard, Town Responds in Force
The dark side of humanity presented itself last Friday to Landing resident Elise Ryan. It came in the form of anonymous letter, stuck in her mailbox, telling her to "show some pride" and clean up her property.  The bright side of humanity showed up today. Dozens of Roxbury residents - including many young people - converged to tidy up the grounds of Ryan, the grandmother of  10-year-old Matt Adonis, a beloved Roxbury athlete undergoing treatment for a brain tumor The message was clear: You don't chastise the property-upkeep efforts of a 70-year-old widow who's been stretched thin trying to help her grandson fight for his life. At least not in Roxbury. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Hopatcong Block Party Open to Sponsors and Vendors - May 12th
During World War I, residents of New York City's East Side began holding informal gatherings in the streets to honor people from their neighborhoods who were serving the Armed Forces. One hundred years later, "block parties" have become a favorite festive way for neighbors to strengthen their bonds and enhance their sense of belonging.

That fact is not lost on organizers of the 5 th Annual Lake Hopatcong Block Party, scheduled for May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Hopatcong State Park in Landing.  "It's a great way to meet or reconnect with neighbors while being entertained outdoors after a long winter," said Co-Planner Beth BaRoss. "Everyone knows what a block party is, and this is one like you've never seen before."

Hosted by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, the Block Party will feature 180 booths, showcasing equal numbers of small businesses, non-profit organizations and crafters. Live the Lake New Jersey is the main sponsor of the event. Guests will also enjoy live music, raffles, giveaways, boat and trackless-train rides, on-the-water demonstrations, a children's activity area and a food court with seating for about 100 patrons. Roxbury Urged to Thrill Vets with Lakeside Displays of Thank - June 30th
Roxbury people are being urged to show up in force along the shoreline of Lake Hopatcong on June 30 to wave, cheer and otherwise thank military veterans who will be passing by on the Third Annual  "Veterans Cruise."

For the first time, the Cruise will swing into Landing Channel at the southern tip of the lake, making the  recently named Landing Gateway Park on Lakeside Boulevard an ideal place for the patriotic to show their appreciation, said Roxbury resident Christine Houtz, who is helping to organize the event.

The veterans will be aboard the Miss Lotta, a vessel that offers cruises of Lake Hopatcong. Miss Lotta Captain Leon Moreau  recently took water depth measurements in the channel and determined it is deep enough for the craft.  Click here  to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.
