First United Methodist Church in Mattoon

Weekly Update
July 6, 2018

Dear (Contact First Name),

Sunday's sermon will be the second in a series of the biblical character David. This week we will examine the problems that David had while Saul was king. David was hunted by Saul, who feared that David was a threat to his throne.  But while being hunted by the King, David was simultaneously aided by the Prince: Jonathan.

"LET US ENTERTAIN US"

That's the theme for the annual UMW Fun Lunch to be held on July 10 at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
All women of the church and their guests are invited.  Highlights include a delicious lunch with piano background music, followed by a skit or two and musical entertainment, including the debut performance of our very own Fun Lunch Bunch.  There is no cost for the lunch (donations accepted), but we do ask that you call the church office at 235-5676 to let us know you're coming, so we can plan the menu accordingly.
Please plan now to attend!

2nd Wind

The Clabber Girl Museum, Candles Holocaust Museum, and the Traverse Bay Pie Co. in Terre Haute are on the agenda for July's activity!  Lunch will be at the Clabber Girl Museum.  This activity will be Saturday, July 14 and departure is 9:00 a.m.  The cost is $10 which covers the admission and transportation.  The sign-up sheet is hanging next to the Welcome Desk.  There is also a sign-up sheet for August's event as well.

Cornerstone café

In the past 2-3 years, we have had several people who have had to opt out of being a Cornerstone Café cook due to health or age reasons.  Some of the past Cornerstone Café cooks have stepped up to fill in these gaps by saying they would be glad to prepare or buy items for the Cornerstone Café twice in a 3 month period of time.  However, it is now time to ask for some new people to come forward to help supply the weekly Sunday 'goodies' that are at the Cornerstone Café upstairs every Sunday.  If you like to bake, please contact Bev Dennis (235-1859) so she can add you to the list and tell you a little more about this ministry of and to the church.

WORSHIP CENTER CAFE MENU FOR SUNDAY!

Worship Center Café is open Sunday!!   We will be serving Biscuits & Gravy, Scrambled Eggs, Bagels, Toast, Juice and Coffee. Donations accepted.   Open 7 a.m.-10 a.m.

Bible StudIES

The 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning bible study with Pastor Mike will begin August 7.  It will still be in the Champion Classroom. Feel free to invite your friends and family to join you!

The women's Thursday morning bible study that meets at 6:30 a.m., will begin meeting at Denny's next week.

Tammy's Tuesday evening bible study will begin meeting again some time in August.

Keeping up with Mike and Jordan

Jordan is taking a vacation Sunday this weekend to go on a camping trip with his family.

The week was pretty routine for Pastor Mike, a mix of administrative work, sermon preparation, meetings, and conversations with people.
