Accommodation

Due to high-season limitations, AFC does not have a specific preferred hotel this year. Per tradition, several artists have indicated they plan to stay at the Lonsdale Quay Hotel in North Vancouver, which is a short 15 minute ferry across the inlet to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Other North Vancouver hotels are still reasonably priced but are less conveniently located. Some artists have booked accommodation through AirBnB, which at the time of this email, still has many options under $150USD/night within a few minutes drive ( in Vancouver and North Vancouver). We recommend researching options online  (Expedia, Travelocity, AirBnB, Hotels.com, etc.) and  booking accommodation ASAP .

Dear Fellow AFC Artists,

C ongratulations once again, to all artists who have been selected for this year's exhibit and thank you to all who participated!
We hope to see you at the 8th AFC Festival from August 22-25 at Vancouver Convention Centre at the epi-center Vancouver's downtown waterfront! Below is an artist's itinerary plus some tips and suggestions to help you plan your trip. All members are welcome! We will distribute a more detailed itinerary for print-out very soon, once some remaining details are finalized.

ARTIST FESTIVAL & DINNER PASS

Our 2018 itinerary is a bit different than past years due to our co-production efforts with two other major event partners with concurrent programming - the 27th International Ornithological Congress (IOCongress2018) and the Vancouver International Bird Festival (VIBF).

The opening evening (Wednesday, August 22) will be divided into two parts: An Artist & Awards preview reception followed immediately by the Grand Opening Reception for exhibiting artists and ticket-holders. The evening will commence with cocktails followed by gourmet hors d'oevres and entertainment.

On Friday, August 24, AFC will host an Artist & Patrons brunch for members (and partners).

Each attending artist and guest must register in advance for an Artist Festival Pass, which  covers the following:
  • Entry to Vancouver Convention Centre (including AFC Festival, VIBF / IOCongress2018 Expo passes
  • Admission to the Artist Awards Preview Reception (Aug 22, 4pm-6pm)
  • Admission to the Grand Opening Reception (Aug 22, 6pm-9pm).
  • Artist & Patrons Brunch (Friday, Aug 24, 9am-11:30am) including return shuttle to Festival.
  • 40% discount on a Sea Safari with Sewell's Marina booked by the artist (to be booked by the artist).

A number of IOCongress-led activities are being planned in the days leading up to and during the AFC Festival, including a parade (Aug 20) and "Canada Evening" reception (Aug 21). A limited number of passes to Canada Evening will be available on a first-come-first-served basis for AFC members who have purchased weekend passes.

A pass is required for all AFC artists attending the opening and/or brunch.

Please  email us  if you are attending with more than one guest/family member. We will do our best to accommodate but space is limited for the artist opening reception, brunch and shuttle.
