November Volunteer of the Month
Lori Allen
Lori has been a leader for the Mountain Explorers 4-H Club for the last 3 years. She has done a variety of activities with this club. They have gone to the Mountain State Fair, raised and auctioned off pigs and chickens, had a table at the Summer Farmers Market on the square the last few years, and encouraged the club members to help volunteer during the Tractor Parade/Ag Day each year.
Three of her members submitted project record books to compete at the state level.
Thank you Lori for all you have done to help create more leaders in Clay County!

Paint - National Lead Prevention Week 2018

Lead has been used throughout human history as an additive for a wide variety of housing products. When lead is added to paint it increases durability and enhances color. In plastics and vinyl, it helps increase rigidity and sturdiness. Lead has also been used as a fire retardant. Although lead has many excellent qualities, it also has one very negative quality:  it is TOXIC to humans and animals
Lead poisoning is a health risk for people of all ages.

Coming Together, Staying Together, & Growing Together: A How-to for Rural Revitalization

Despite the diversity and unique characteristics among our nation's rural towns, there exists a widening gap between prosperous urban and distressed rural areas. To preserve the valuable resources and character of these towns, revitalization as a result of stakeholders uniting to identify pressing issues and highlight opportunities has emerged rapidly. Collaboration is strongly suggested as a means to maximize resources to achieve goals.
