Student Perception Coolness!
We had some cool and exciting things happen in December on the student perception survey front. The Washington Educational Research Association (WERA) announced that OSPI and CSTP received the WERA Product Award for the recently launched student perception surveys. This annual award recognizes outstanding professional products related to testing, assessment, program evaluation, instructional research, instructional evaluation and school and district profiles. Award winning products must be original work, have state-wide and long-term value and communicate to a wide audience. More information about the surveys can be found at
http://cstp-wa.org/teacher-leadership/resources/student-perception-project/.
CSTP also took the national stage presenting at Learning Forward's 2018 Annual Conference held in Dallas. The theme of the conference was "All Learners, Many Perspectives, One Community" and featured powerful equity-centered keynote speakers such as Glenn Singleton, Janice Jackson and Margaret Wheatley. Joined by Mary Snyder from Steilacoom School District and Sue Anderson from OSPI, CSTP's session "Student Voice as Data: The Impact of Student Perception Surveys" focused on the power of leveraging student perception surveys as a growth tool. Participants gained insights on the process used to develop Washington's student perception surveys, as well as the impact on teacher growth, classroom practice and school culture. It was a great opportunity to highlight the powerful work of teachers and schools who have been utilizing the student perception surveys as a transformative tool.

Teacher Input Needed on Professional Growth Plans (PGPs)
Professional Growth Plans are a free way to earn clock hours from the state and renew your teaching certificate for work you are already doing in your professional development journey. As the Washington Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) works to promote and update the PGP process and requirements, we are looking for feedback from teachers in the field. The survey takes no more than 10 minutes to complete and the deadline to respond is
January 11, 2019. If you are not familiar with the Washington State Professional Growth Plan, please take a few minutes to review them at this link,
http://bit.ly/2mb8beI, before completing the survey. It will also save you time in the survey to preview the InTASC standards found on page 8 and 9, of this document,
https://ccsso.org/sites/default/files/2017-11/InTASC_Model_Core_Teaching_Standards_2011.pdf, before beginning.
The PESB would like your feedback whether or not you have completed a Washington State Professional Growth Plan in the past.

In mid-December the Washington Teacher Advisory Council, led by teacher leaders NBCT Shari Conditt (Woodland) and NBCT Sheila Stuhlsatz (Kalama), hosted a legislative forum connecting award winning educators and legislators from the ESD 112 region. The event was held at Woodland High School and attended by educators from Southwest Washington. State Representative and teacher Monica Stonier from the 49th Legislative District was in attendance. Educators discussed a variety of issues they and their students are facing in their school communities. Representative Stonier shared potential legislative agenda items for the upcoming long session and proposed methods and strategies for reaching out to other legislators in the region. Way to go Shari and Sheila for creating opportunities for teachers to dialogue with policymakers!
