Proud Physician Profile of the Week

Why are you proud to be a physician?
As a primary care physician, I get to care for my patients not only in sickness but also when they are healthy. When they are sick, I get to diagnose and treat them from head to toe and, if I need assistance, to collaborate with a host of amazing colleagues in the area. These are some of the reasons, along with putting my patients first and working with colleagues who also put their patients first despite all of the pressures we as physicians are under, why I am proud to be a physician.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
For me, the pride comes from the social element of these organizations. I think it's very important for physicians to interact with other physicians outside of patient care, not only for advocacy reasons but also for the sake of our sanity. As a young physician and relative newcomer to the Montgomery County medical community, MCMS & MedChi help me stay connected.

Michigan ENT Practice Shuts Down Due to Ransomware
|
Thousands of patients lost their records in this breach, due to a lack of proper cybersecurity and HIPAA controls. Attempts to recover their records may cost thousands of dollars, disrupt their medical care, and, at this very moment, their records may be for sale on the dark web.
The simple lesson? IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU.

April Is STI Awareness Month
|
In the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, cases of syphilis in pregnant women rose 61% in the U.S. Screening during pregnancy is important to protect the mother and the unborn baby.
Risk factor screening is likely inadequate in high prevalence areas, and 1st and 3rd trimester screening is more appropriate.
