he Blitz will be held April 5-6th at Berea Municipal Utilities. Set-up and preparations will be held on Friday, April 5th, and the main event will be held on the 6th from 8am-3pm. 8am - 2pm will be bed construction and delivery, as well as classes open to the community on sewing, crocheting, building eco-bricks, and more. Their community potluck will begin at 2pm at the BMU to celebrate volunteers and community members, and all are welcome to join.

This new dramatization of C.S. Lewis' classic, set in the land of Narnia, faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. The intense action features chases, duels, and escapes as the witch is determined to keep Narnia in her possession and to end the reign of Aslan. All the memorable episodes from the story are represented in this exciting dramatization: the temptation of Edmund by the witch, the slaying of the evil wolf by Peter, the witnessing of Aslan's resurrection by Susan and Lucy, the crowing of the four new rulers of Narnia, and more. 2D Mixed Media Collage with Paul Decker Haynes

Learn how to use several techniques to complete a finished mixed media piece to hang in your home or give as a gift! Paula Decker Haynes will demonstrate the techniques used in creating 2D mixed media artwork that may also be applied to 3D applications as well. You will layer with inks, paint, gesso, papers, mediums, stencils, stamps, and finish with either a painting that comes out of your background or layer a collage piece you have created from papers adhered to your background.
Provided materials include a Masonite board (11"x14¨), papers and ephemera (which will include old book pages, some original papers, scrapbook papers, acrylic paints, gesso, brushes for applying matte medium, and other mediums. Things you will need to bring: any personal ephemera to use in your finished piece, substrate (if you wish to use anything different than the provided 11x14 Masonite board. Cost is $60.

The Great Kentucky Cover Up

Showcasing quilts from artists across the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea announced its latest exhibit, The Great Kentucky Cover Up, on display now through May 6, 2019 at the Center. The exhibit features work from artists Glenna Blakely, of Harlan, Brenda Plaster, of Lawrenceburg, Janet Serrenho of Lexington, and Karen Witt of Lexington.
The creation of quilts is the result of mankind's frugality, need for warmth and beauty. Quilted fabrics have
been found in China, Europe and numerous other cultures throughout the world. In early American
c
olonial days, fabric came by ship from Europe and was scarce. When cloth wore out, it was folded, cut, altered and used again and again.
Quilting is a process of layering fabric, where a padding or batting is sandwiched in between the fabric layers. This composite is then stitched together, often with a decorative or ornate top to form a quilt.
Quilting requires endless hours of stitching and patchwork quilting developed numerous patterns, especially in the 1700s and in the Southern Appalachians. Quilt patterns were inspired by objects in daily life and often were handed down fro
m one generation to another.
Quilting today has reached the realm of fine art. Contemporary quilters utilize a vast array of fabrics, complicated techniques and often personal narratives to their work. This exhibit includes traditional quilt patterns such as "Lone Star" and "Hunter Star" by Glenna Blakley as well as contemporary themed quilts like "Third Mesa" by Janet Serrenho, which depicts colorful images from the South-west.
Reveal: Large 2-D Works
(March 16, 2019 - June 16, 2019)
The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea announces the exhibit Reveal, showcasing the work of Sabra L. Crockett, Damon Farmer, Felipe Molina and Robbie Mueller. This exhibit will run March 16 - June 16, 2019, in the Center's lobby and foyer. All four artists work in large two-dimensional formats.
Originally from Rochester, New York, Sabra L. Crockett has lived in numerous locations throughout the south before finding her home in Louisville, Kentucky. There she enjoys being surrounded by beautiful songbirds and a spectacular variety of trees.
"I am fascinated by nature. It has a secret language that I try to decipher. There is a feeling I get when observing the birds, animals, and trees - a feeling that I am experiencing something that is so familiar, and yet so extraordinary," she states. "I have been visiting one of the largest and oldest Ginko trees in Louisville for many years now and the painting in this exhibit is the first in a series about this tree."

Rachel Savané studied metals at the University of Illinois and abroad in Denmark. In 2003, she opened Savané Silver Gallery in Lexington on West Main Street. Savané designs a line of jewelry with streamlined settings using native Kentucky Agates as centerpieces.

Colorful Polymer Clay Jewelry Demonstrated by BeSpoken Design Artists
Diana Smith Thomas and James Rich of BeSpoken Designs will create colorful jewelry from polymer clay
at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
With design and color as his forte, Rich translates his drawings and pen and ink studies into colorful polymer clay. Using a variety of colors, he constructs intricate polymer clay "canes".
A "cane" is a rod made up of two or more colors, layered to make a pattern that when cut in a cross-section, reveals a design.
Thomas, a Berea College graduate, takes the constructed polymer clay "cane" designs made by Rich, and creates unique jewelry and wearable art. She takes sliced sections of the polymer clay and folds, cuts and joins them, to create necklace pendants, earrings and pins.

Kimmerer is a scientist and a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation who embraces the notion that plants are our oldest teachers. The book intertwines knowledge and perspectives in new ways, celebrating the reciprocal relationship between humans and the natural world.

For those of you who would love to learn to ferment your own foods and truly understand what it's all about, this is a great opportunity for you. Many people are afraid to ferment as we were taught that foods belong in the refrigerator or freezer or need to be full of preservatives in order to not be "poison". Blacksmith, who teaches at the Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, is an expert in the history, culture, philosophy, and spirituality of the Lakota people. He will discuss core concepts of the origin and the afterlife according to Lakota philosophy; Lakota Star Knowledge; the power and symbolism of the Medicine Wheel; and concepts of synchronicity. The Hutchins Library will exhibit Lakota artifacts in conjunction with this talk.
