DID YOU KNOW...
  • Music builds early language development.
  • A Stanford study shows that music engages areas of the brain which are involved with paying attention, making predictions, and updating events in our memory.
  • A review of 23 studies covering almost 1,500 patients found that listening to music reduced heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety in heart disease patients.
  • Music is an important part of a child's identity and can boost self-confidence.
  • A study found that a quick blast of happy music made participants perceive other's faces as happier. The same was true for a snippet of sad music.
  • Playing soft music (and dimming the lights) during a meal can help people slow down while eating and ultimately consume less food in one sitting.
  • The College Entrance Examination Board found that students involved in public school music programs scored 107 points higher on the SATs than students with no participation.
For more information on the benefits of listening to music and music education, visit  National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.
